Climbing On A Pulley???

I've started to experiment climging on a pulley. While this is buttery smooth other problems come into play. Hip thrusting is easier going up but trying to hold yourself to tend slack is much harder. Also the hitch bites down much harder.

Any suggestions?

climb with bee line or heat resistant cord. Play around with the anchorbridge method. It will make your life so nice if you add that in to your system and resolve the slacktending issue. See Rich H's thread on the subject. There is also the one way pulley which makes it easier going up but doesnt put as much work on the hitch going down. I dont have one but I want one.

trying a few different climbing hitches/knots and different hitch material to see which works the best for you. i often use a pulley to get high into the tree if there's allot of work on the way up then switch to cambium saver for the rest. it's often easier to get the pulley installed with one or two good shots than to isolate for a friction/cambium saver.

sometimes when i rec climb with new climbers i will use a pulley. i figure the less energy they use the more they will enjoy the climb. how do you install the pulley from the ground?

Get your line over - call it rope A - and get the pulley and carabiner attatched to the working end, put your climbing rope (rope B) through the pulley, haul it all up to the highest point that your rope's at (hopefully a nice strong crotch) and hitch the running end of the anchor rope A around the bottom of the trunk.

Then, attach your split tail to the running end of Rope B, clip in to the working end and Bob's yer uncle!

Clear?

Here is what I want to climb on for A.R. Or on the job whern i get lucky enogh to do biggies....I want to footlock up with this set up already....tie a slip knot into the footlock line below my prussick...slap a kreab into the slip knot...through my back pack down,,,and jam on it!!!!
During comp...im to nervousand worked up to study the pros set ups but i think this is close to what Gary..Jared and all those guys used...
Is this ok to climb on? I am waiting on a revised version from climber PU but i want to practise and would like to keep using this untill i can improve on it.
Also...can i just tie my slip knot and krab and go for it ? I remember reading somthing top the effect that there is to be no lateral movement untill lanyarding in?

also.....I am using a short rope with a pully on it to put above the dummys knot.....this is attatched to me and when my weight pulls it....the dummys knot is worked autmaticaly...WORKS SWEET....frees up a hand to hold his(her) head up....however...i thought since i did thios that i shouldnt have to put my flipline around joe since we are attached already so to speak. anyone think i lost points for no flipline around joe?

anyhoo this is sort of pulley related :)
BRING ON THE GRIT!

i think you might be replying to the wrong thread!

arbor101 how do you get your system down when you hit the ground.Maybe try an srt with that system or is that for aerial rescue.

Why tie a slipknot? There are much better and more secure loop knots.

Tie a figure eight on a bight and put a biner in the eye then clip around the two ropes below the bight. I don't think that there is a more secure way to tie off. Correct me if I'm wrong...

I would NEVER allow anyone to climb on that system unless their ascending loop is snugged down onto the top of the stopper. There is a possibility that the ascending loop, now your tie in point, could fail and slip down. Too many bad things could happen if that happened.

This is for A.R.
And once the figure eight and krab are in it i supose there is no retrieving it from the ground.
I could swear that people were using somthing like this at competition
Thanx for the input Tom. I thought that it would be o.k. so long as i NEVER put my hand on or above the prussick....and once i had my stopper knot (now using figure eight on bite) I felt that every thing was alright....
I suppose Ill have to wait for a better method before any more practice takes place.

Thanx a bunch

Does this have a pretty high success rate? I can see things getting all jammed up and not falling into place. Then again, that's usually how things go for me.

thanks for posting!

if you want a pully that you can install from the ground that would help you get to the top, but maybe not down until you reach the top and install a cambium saver. Try checking out the mini trixion by petzel. Its about 65.00 and its a ultra small and lightweight and has a built in cam on the pully. I would recomend still using some sort of friction device as a back up tied to your saddle. Also we incorporate a port-a-wrap to the base of the tree if we are going to use a static false crotch of this nature just because its easier for tha ground crew to tie off easier and also because the mini triaxion is only one way operation untill you get to the top, you never know if some unexpected friend or foe comes out of a hollow that you may have missed. This tecknique is for asscension only Ill follow through with another great trick for A.R. tommarow know as the secret ............ I cant say now you will have to turn into the same bat time same bat channel.
