Climbing On A Pulley???

whenever im doing a removal i always climb on a pully and cmi strap, i figure i dont have anything to retreive because its all gonna be down on the ground anyway and its always my last cut so i have the ground guys retrive it or me, so so smooth and with my vt knot and slack tendin pully, if i ever need to get back to the top fast.. the ground guys just keep tension on my rope and up up and away i go

It's called Ocean Polyester by Teufelberger (I think), at least that's who stitches it (I think). It's the hitch cord that came with my treeMotion harness. I couldn't climb on a pulley due to hitch clamping until I tried OP. Truly amazing cord! Get some at Treeworker.co.uk

Re: Climbing On A Pulley???

Hello Wolter,
About your attachment showing the installation of a pulley and ring friction saver from the ground. You mentioned that you can attach the little retrieval harp at the end of the friction saver to the working end of the climbing line just below the ring of the friction saver so that you won't have to climb all the way up to the TIP. Does this mean that you can retrieve it remotely after you complete your climb, because I am having troubles understanding how you do this. Could you please explain how you set this up?
Also, I am finally using the same set-up for the friction saver that you show in your attachment and find that it retrieves more easily than the rope-guide style set-up because the ring, or in my case carabiner, pulls around the pulley during retrieval. This is easier than the pulley having to be pulled up and through the carabiner or ring. I find this set-up retrieves more smoothly and consistently. Thanks, Russell

Re: Climbing On A Pulley???

Russel,

I the attached picture you can see the setup in the top of the tree. The little 'harp' is just wide enough to have the line running free through it. It catches the thick part of the end of the climbing line.

Re: Climbing On A Pulley???

The picture that you have attached looks the same as the set up that I am using but is yours installed from the ground, including the retrieval harp, or must you climb up all the way to the TIP in order to make it retrievable?
I don't quite follow in your previous post, how you attached the harp so that you wouldn't have to climb all the way up to the TIP, maybe there's just a simple thing that I am not seeing.
Thanks, Russell

so the pulley that i was reffering to is a Harken pulley. Primarily a sailing pulley but it is rated for climbing. Same folks that make the GRCS It Has a little switch on it that you can switch so it turns both ways. Jason Butcher brought out a really nifty system this past weekend in the OTCC that incorporated this pulley. I think Mark uses it as well and greg good may be a good source.

Re: Climbing On A Pulley???

You can attach the retrieval harp only when your climbing line is about four times the length of the TIP height. Well actually you can do it with less rope but than you have to fiddle around with throw lines on one end (hoping the line gets through the ring correctly).

Re: Climbing On A Pulley???

ok... easy solution to this just had to sit around and think of the hard things to do, to come up with it. take your friction save attache a medium pulley to the small ring. Run the throw cord through it ( pulley ) the same way you would the small ring. send it up the tree and it will have the cord going through the big ring and the pulley. Pull your line through and there you have it, so easy it cant be true! I will get pics for ya.

Re: Climbing On A Pulley???

Oh ya forgot to say, dont use a knot passing pulley... sad sad face if you do. Also if you dont want the pulley falling to earth or your head when you retreve it tie the throw cord to the end of your rope so you control the fall.
