climbing harness

So I did take the advice here and got the Onyx, it came on Friday. Even after a couple of hours fiddling with it I'm still having a little trouble dialing in the adjustments, but it could be that I'm expecting too much and comparing it to the bosun seat feel of the Versatile. I'm going to call NT tomorrow and see if I can get some more input on adjustments. I do like the layout on it, and it's fairly light. Thanks for the input.

I spent a couple of hours dialing in an NT Onyx at a gear dealer so I could test it. It's the downside of having a very adjustable harness, it takes some time to get it right. The upside is every aspect of it can be adjusted. I did the same with a Tree Motion, didn't take as long but did take some time. In the end I went with the Tree Motion, the Onyx has slightly better leg support, the Tree Motion has better hip/pelvic support. I'm skinny and don't have natural padding, the Onyx (like most climbing harnesses) pinches me at the hips. The stitching that supports the side D's on most harness belts is a point where the hips get pinched or chafed. Tree Motion belt has a different attachment design for the side D's which solves the chafing problem for me. Worked in it yesterday, very good.

I know you may have started there but I will say it any way. Start with the legs loose, I mean loose, they should hang by your knees. Think board shorts.

I also did not like the strap that ran between the lags, butt strap maybe. My Trrfox did not have it so it was the first thing I removed.

The butt strap on the Onyx is tricky to get right. It would be helpful if someone who really has the harness tuned right (or New Tribe) can make a video of the setup and adjustment process.
