You might consider makiung prayer ties, which are little bundles of tobaco tied up in small colored cotton cloth patches. This is part of the Native American spiritual tradition and can be very good for All. Just keep good thoughts and prayers when making them and when tying them in the tree.
I throw underhand between the legs too... Adding a little more line length to the bag will make for a longer arc to the pendulum and therefore get a bit more height... Do what feels right for you of course. You might just try it and see if that helps...
