Climbers for Christ

Further insight from odb:
When John F. Kennedy was president of the US, photographers sometimes captured a winsome scene. Seated around the president’s desk in the Oval Office, cabinet members are debating matters of world consequence. Meanwhile, a toddler, the 2-year-old John-John, crawls around and inside the huge presidential desk, oblivious to White House protocol and the weighty matters of state. He is simply visiting his daddy.

That is the kind of shocking accessibility conveyed in the word Abba when Jesus said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You” (Mark 14:36). God may be the sovereign Lord of the universe, but through His Son, God became as approachable as any doting human father. In Romans 8, Paul brings the image of intimacy even closer. God’s Spirit lives inside us, he says, and when we do not know what we ought to pray “the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (v.26).

Jesus came to demonstrate that a perfect and holy God welcomes pleas for help from a widow with two mites and a Roman centurion and a miserable publican and a thief on a cross. We need only call out “Abba” or, failing that, simply groan. God has come that close to us.

We want to talk to God, but it can be difficult to find words to express the emotions of our heart. The Discovery Series booklet Let’s Pray may help. Read it online at www.discoveryseries.org/hp135
Prayer is an intimate conversation with our God.
Insight
The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives is the evidence that we are saved. The Holy Spirit is also called “the Spirit of God” and the “Spirit of Christ” (Rom. 8:9). Paul taught that the Spirit is the deposit that guarantees our salvation (Eph 1:13-14) and the source of our new life (Rom. 8:11). Assuring us that we are God’s children, the Holy Spirit enables us to affectionately call out to God, “Abba, Father” (v. 15). As “the Spirit of adoption” (v.15), the Spirit changes our status from slaves to sons (Gal. 4:6), giving us the full privileges of sonship—making us heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ (Rom. 8:17). The indwelling Spirit helps us to pray by interceding for us and with us (v. 26).

This is from our daily bread this morning:
Romans 8:14-17New International Version (NIV)
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry, “Abba,[b] Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spiritthat we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
My Dad used to send me the daily breads.. wish he'd send some more ..that's the perfect dose to start the day.

This is awesome! I figured a thread like this would catch on fire but I certainly didn't think it'd be 9 pages worth. This thread fits right in with the book and class I'm working through (apologetics). Awesome questions and thought provoking answers, just the fuel for study. I've studied more about non-Christian beliefs in the past week than I ever have. I feel like I stole the opposing teams game plan....

PS would someone mind telling me the answer to the masterblaster tree forum question who built the first Ark? wasn't it Noah? Is it some sort of trick question? Because I cannot even contact the administrators of the website without knowing the answer?
...but you better not get it wrong! or else!

Not claiming to be any kind of scholar, but did the Ark of the Covenant pre-date the floating zoo?

I believe we only get one shot at this life..how many trips around the sun God only knows .. If you don't believe in Christ's salvation may you come to find it before you depart from this life into the next....I believe its an eternity of dreams that come true and everything that's true and good can be yours with faith ,hope and love above all .. See the light then be the light ..Enjoy

Pretty sure these bodies we wake up in everyday, will not live for ever.

Where ever we all came from before here, Odds are we are all going back there.

Dualistic view, here and not here.

To me religion tastes like some one else's fairy tale to help them cope with the unknown. I call it junk food for the soul. Like fast food, empty calories.

Well I have to agree with Frashdog, however I suspect there is something very powerful and liberating about surrendering to a omnipotent higher power and that that experience is very real.

I hope that you will come to see reason and stop believing in ancient superstition. The hope of our planet depends on it.
If the "ancient superstition" you're referring to is the one in which people actively love there fellow man, solve problems with peace, give to the needy, and try to live there life in accordance with Jesus' teachings......then I'm not sure how the world could be better off without Christ, or His followers.

We can't explain everything away, eventually we'll have to explain away the explanation itself. A wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To see through all things is the same as not seeing. C.S. Lewis

True Dat! I agree completely. But we can't judge the system by it's failures. If the unbeliever's logic holds true......Christianity is bogus because all Christians are racists, hypocrites, and narrow minded. But the Gospel teaches none of this....It's the failure of the man. Example: The hitchclimber pulley is not ever to be used because people have been hurt, or killed using it. Wrong! The people have been hurt or killed because of its misuse or neglect on the climber's part, not because the HCP is a deadly product.

The truth of the Gospel is demonstrated in many cultural groups around the world (some 4000 to date) which formerly lived in fear and spiritual darkness. They recognize the truth and are transformed by it and receive it with gladness. My father-in-law was for many years a pilot in PNG for the work of Bible translation and has undoubtedly flown into this tribal location before.
