I haven't moved around much, nor do I have the cert, but I do have 10 years in, 8+ of which are at the same company.
Reasons I've stayed and what i'll look for when I move on:
-Less involved owners, they're still around managing stuff in the office, and still assign and follow up on work orders, but they don't hound you out in the field (they'll stop in on highly sensitive clients, otherwise they come visit ~monthly to see how it's going)
-Wide and deep top tier talent pool, Some of us are awesome removal guys, some really good at spikeless pruning, some are fantastic at ornamentals and shrubs and work gets divided accordingly, but if you're getting burnt out there are enough others to swap with for a while and do something different
-Advancement within the company, started as a ground hand, now I'm a senior foremen, and there has been talk of a GF/training type position at some point in the future, with matching increases in pay based on increased responsibility
-Vacation Time: No one gives me a hard time if I want to take a week or 2 off in the middle of the busy season since there's enough man power to keep the work flowing, same goes with other crew members and even bosses, we can continue to function with a couple of key people missing
Somethings I would look for in addition to these if i move
Training- not that we do a bad job where I'm at, but I'd like an advanced tier for more senior guys to discuss and get experience with advanced techniques, new equipment training, etc.
Culture is something that's important, however given the above, I don't see a company with a less than friendly group of employees having all of those options
