Clemmons North Carolina Tanglewood Park Oct 3rd

Tanglewood Saturday Night Hoot, Holler, Howl, Bark and Eat

I am starting this thread to coordinate the MEAL! that we will be sharing on October 3rd at Tanglewood park. If you were at last year’s Rendezvous you know the bar has been set quite high by Peter and Patty. They really know how to host a party and since it was the 25th Anniversary of TCI I tip my helmet to them yet again. I have never been around a better pair when it comes to events or hosting surprises; I was balling like a baby at the base of the Bogachiel Spruce when she accepted Treeman’s marriage offer.

Our attempts last year to make the party last well past midnight were well received by all. I must apologize if I have forgotten all the correct names but here are the highlights as I remember: Forest started off with an amazing display of fire dancing fueled I guess from his recent victory at TreeGolf. Hands down in all my life I have never seen such an unbelievable hand toss; not by Forest but by John-san. A double reverse backwards ricochet on the third sudden death tie breaker! John-san won the cash and Forest came in second. John-san won his half of the wad of cash and of course he being most honorable was glad to also contribute his proceeds to the Atlanta urban forest TreeFund. Forest by no surprise walked away with the coveted Petzl Sequoia saddle that is as close to wearing nothing at all.

Next was the music- not digitally enhanced studio purified re-mastered casserole but real gut thumping side-splitting tones of joy that filled the night and the whole fire-lighted canopy as far as the eye could see. It just made you to want to move or at least hug the treehugger next to you. People brought gunny-sacks of instruments; drums and lacking a proper didgery-do he used a tent pole pipe that the low notes still tickle my nose when I remember.

Hoops! Reluctantly I will just have to say you have to have been there to know what I mean. I really hope that this year they bring their lighted Hoops and if not I will duct tape glow sticks on them. Please respond that you and your friends are coming with all the really good toys too!

The Patherfinder gals are not to be messed with- I thought that our circle would never be able to lower the hoop to the ground. Then they must be immune to Poison Ivy after holding on to 2” diameter vines all day. And please have them sing sea shanties again- Here in Kansas we don’t get to be around many sailors but some of those choruses’ could make a longshoreman blush.

One of my favorite quotes was from one of the break-dancing arborists from New Jersey that was attending their very first Rendezvous. He said they decided that climbing with girls was much better especially since the girls smelled so good. This is priceless folks.

This year the campfire must continue and we start off with a community meal. So my goal is to ask for each of your for your best game. We know that those that come by plane can’t bring all of their Dutch ovens so your help at the pots is requested. Bob was first to call and say his will be a constant availability of fresh caught shrimp on the boil; Baked Ziti and Pineapple upside down Surprise cake. YUUMMMMY I would come just to share Bob’s meal.

Bob also is having his mountain friends come not to climb but to cook with their Dutch Ovens and people these guys are good! Nirvana in cast iron.

Kansas City style Bar-B-Que Pork ribs- guess who? And yes each rib needs at least two Bounty towels (sorry Dale)

Ok so we are down to the wire and the pot luck needs to be organized so let us know what you got and show us your best stuff. Tanglewood will let us bring in our own coolers filled with anything we care to share and ice and firewood will not be lacking.

Heck I may even need to rent a Golf cart to portage, taxi or Pick’em’up any takers?

Do not be bashful and call me at 913-261-9707 or post your reply here!
We all know just how good this is going to be. 56 days and counting.

Oh by the way you better get your money in now or at least tell Bob your T-shirt size if you are coming. Be Their or Be Square!

Not to mention some excellent woods-grown tall tulip poplars. The campfire activity at night is always excellent, great jams, dancing etc., or kick back and enjoy a beverage. Tree camping will be happening, nothing like sleeping aloft for a few days in a row. I can't make it this year unfortunately but it's likely going to be the best Rendezvous to-date.
