clean cut crews.

Mabey. But I'm not talking about my best worker. I'm Talking about the guys that are happy to sit at the bottom of the totum and let newer people take their oppertunities. My best workers are happy to help make the Co. look good. Remember this is a coming from me, the tattoo faced Arborist.

Fair enough. Sounds like the workers you speak of have plenty of other reasons to be reprimanded. And asking you if you'd terminate your best worker due to it was hypothetical. You replied maybe. I'll take that as a no you wouldn't.

Do you really have ink on your face? I cant tell in your avatar. I dig tattoos of all kinds, and have several myself. But I will admit that when I see someone with a tattooed face or neck, or even facial piercings I cant help to think that getting hired somewhere wouldnt be hindered by that.
Facial hair is natural, tats and piercings are not.

So just so Im clear about it. You have a tattoo on your face, and yet at the same time you are unhappy because your employee's beards are a little scruffy? No offense, but it sounds like a double standard to me. If my boss had a tat on his face and approached me with a picture of how my facial hair should be kept, Id laugh in their face and tell them to get bent. And if it cost me my job, it would be their loss not mine. I couldnt / wouldnt work for a hypocrite.

Is this your crew Nevic?

If so, they all look professional enough to me. Matching company tees would be better though.

Well except for the joker with the huge holes in his ears. I suppose they make good gear loops while climbing.

My bad. I just realized the joker is you. No offense meant.

But are you serious?

Ever heard the saying about the kettle calling the pot black?

If I were looking to hire someone and the choice between a guy who needed to shave a little more or a guy with d rings in his ears or a tattooed face. There would be nothing to consider, if they were equally qualified. The guy needing a shave would be hired, and the other not even considered.

Im sorry but you are a hypocrite!

Nevic if this is your crew, why are you even posting anything about clean cut crews, you guys look like a bunch of gypsies. WTF. Mayb you are trying to clean em up. They do not look unpresentable to me, but for people that like it "HIGH AND TIGHT" they do.
And the gypsie comment is just a joke in good fun!

They don't look like anything like gypsies. This is a gypsy from our crew. She's in charge of telling us if trees are OK to climb.

That's funny right there! That pic cracks me up. I need to get one of those gyps so that she can see if dead trees are okay for us to climb in. Also when I think of gypsies I sort of envision a band of wondering hippies, although I realize hippies and gypsies are 2 different clans of people. Much love Nevic, just jerkin you string a little.

ok, It's been a long day. This thread has offered me alot of insite. Much of the wisdom as well as the misconception has come from tophopper. I really appreciate all of the time and thought every one has put into this thread. Please allow me to respond when I feel fresh.

There is something to be said about uniforms.

Or should I say, a uniform look? Certainly, matching shirts is a start. Matching pants and shirts would be even better. I'm going to experiment with this soon.

I'm looking forward for my crew to have matching pants and shirts. We'll look sharp!

I will skip on the matching pants but company lettered shirts work for me. Clean company shirts at least at the start of the day.

Just curious has anyone noticed an apprehention toward anyone about who the customer approaches??

I mean, ever notice more often than not the customer first talks to a clean cut guy over the other? I know when I worked at my last job I was the first one that the customer talked to about 80% of the time even though I was only an intern. My best guess was it was because I was white, and some of them made it pretty obvious that was the reason.

Hypocracy is a strong word fellas. My tatoos and stretched out ears are a story from another era of my life, they at this point do not represent my life style. Choises from my younger years have been a chalange to overcome proffessionally but I've done it. There is no hypocracy in wanting the co. to look good. I've paid my dues and I think its fine to ask younger guys to do the same. As things would have it, I've decided that pony tails and beards can stay as long as their tied up (the tails) and trimmed neet. That was the whole point in the first place. My idea of "high and tight" may be a little loose. Thanx for all the input. Get High, Be Safe! - ND

Sorry if I offended you. Just giving another viewpoint that you may not have considered.

I agree in your statement that there is no hypocrisies in wanting to look good. But what exactly does "look good" mean? What looks good to one may not to another. It is a subjective statement.
All in the eye of the beholder.

My apologies if I didnt sugar coat my previous replies to you. One of my flaws is I am honest about my opinion, even brutally honest at times.

No sugar coating needed with me tophopper. I don't care to speek to people who don't say it straight. Glad you brought some of those things up because it makes me think about what might be going through a young mans mind when I ask him to get a hair cut. It all comes back to dues. All things equal, I think I would be the guy you gave the job, Donnelly charm is unsurpassed. I've kissed the Blarney Stone!

Nevic I just want you to know that I never found you look offensive in the first place. I would hire you in a second if you came to me looking for a job, except you already own a successful co.. Your look says nothing of your lifestyle to me, past or present, we r all a bit wild or have been. Sorry if I offended you with my wisecracks. I now understand that your version of "high and tight" might be a bit like my version. No harm, no foul I hope. Keep rockin out.
Matching shirts and pants are gr8. But I believe the service and the way you treat the customer are first and foremost. All of us are always lookin for a way to better our co.'s. MUCH RESPECT AND GOOD LUCK!
