Chernobyl Trees

This is an interesting article about the research into the effects of the Chernobyl accident on tree growth:

There are a couple of mistakes in the picture captions though.

In one there's a stack of butt-cuts. The center of the logs is lighter color than the outer ring. The caption says its from radiation. Mu guess though is that it might be the portion where water is transported...dang...I'd get this question wrong on a test! What's it called???

It might be coincidental that the discoloration is dated back to '86.

In another there are pics of Scots pines with snaggly growth which is blamed on radiation. I dunna think so!!! One identifying characteristic of SP is the wild growth form most of the time. That's more normal than not in most cases in my experiences.

Your right Tom.

Those colours are always there no matter what, I cut a pine to a standing stick 1yr ago, and cut it down 1 week ago, the ends were dried and split, the cuts were still sappy and coloured.

BBC are full of BS, everyday pushing rubbish out on networks to keep the world convinced of utter rubbish.

Real news is mis-quoted and only aimed at the masses.

If those logs were cut recently, it sure doesn't appear to even be enough years to get back to '86 at the point of discoloration. Looks more like they sprouted in '86!?
