There are a couple of mistakes in the picture captions though.
In one there's a stack of butt-cuts. The center of the logs is lighter color than the outer ring. The caption says its from radiation. Mu guess though is that it might be the portion where water is transported...dang...I'd get this question wrong on a test! What's it called???
It might be coincidental that the discoloration is dated back to '86.
In another there are pics of Scots pines with snaggly growth which is blamed on radiation. I dunna think so!!! One identifying characteristic of SP is the wild growth form most of the time. That's more normal than not in most cases in my experiences.
