Chainsaw Pants

Does anyone know if it is a OSHA requirement to wear leg protection while climbing in the Portland Oregon area? Cause wearing those pants when your in the tree is hotter than a whiskey fart!!!

OSHA doesn't as of now. No where in the US do you have to wear chainsaw pants in the tree. Only on the ground. I wouldn't be surprised in a few years if it changes.

Better hot than cut, I were sip's all year long no problems even at 95^ outside in the Fl summer. Hot is hot.
Just my feelings

The SIPs give me a rash in the heat. In the winter I love em because Im also wearing long johns. There needs to be a more skin friendly layer between the padding and my body. It would be nice if they were a little more heat resistant too. Ive put a couple of burn holes in these very expensive pants with hot mufflers.

Throw a pair of under armor under the sips to get the moisture away from your skin. should take care of the rash.

"better hot than cut" - I like that!

??? Thanking your legs executioner??? I would sue him for that.
No serious, A pair of Sip's or Pfanners will do the trick for you. You are not the first and will probably not be the last that eventually will say; "If only I had some protection on my legs..."
Wearing protection during hot days is a 'pain', but not as painful as a lifetime scrutinizing pain in a leg.

Id rather have hot legs(I think I do even without pants

) than my attatchment. WARNING!!!!! GRAPHIC PIC. I know what it feels like.

I was told recently that the Pfanner and SIP pants do not meet the US standards for chainsaw protection. That these pants have actually failed tests of their ability to stop a saw (I'm presuming a big saw).

That said I'll continue to wear them, but I'll wait till the temperature drops back to below 80 (i.e. September). Until then its chaps when I'm on the ground.

Sorry I have to be one to say if you cut yourself that bad maybe tink about a desk job huh? Higher a guy that won't do that you'll make more money and all of our ins rates will go down.

I'm with Scotty on this one. I always were my SIP's too whether climbing or working on the ground, but I am tempted now that I have a new pair of Arborwear Tech pants!

Not sure if this has been discussed much or how many details have been released so I'll be vague... look for a US company to enter the chainsaw protective pants market as early as 2010.

Would it make the $200+ pair of imported climbing pants a thing of the past?

O.T.
Hey TreeStuff, Been away for awile but I gotta ask. Has anyone given you for that 200 sitting on your rope?
Even if it's obviously brand new.

lol, good point. and you're the first. it's a lame promo shot from Stihl USA's marketing department, so I'll let them take the blame.
