Chainsaw pants for climbing

Got the 5.1's in the mail today and they fit great. The true test will be how they feel in 85 degree heat and if they last. Thanks for all the info guys.

The extra long ones for sure Nathan, have the same ones also in grey.

Wolter, by looks of them I think they are last years 6x6 with extremeschutz. Would be better if the left knee was shown instead, check for the logo´s. Had to pick mine of the floor to check properly. They put a zip and a black flap over the pockets on the recent ones I believe, stop all that sawdust getting in. Its always a good one when you are buying groceries and and you give them half a ton of saw chippings at the same time with your small change. Always put a smile on their face, I just tell that my brain fell out of my arse.

For the last 5 years I've used the pants from Millworks manufacturing in canada. Can't be specific on the specs, and you have to call to order as they are not listed on the website. It's basically a carhhart shell with chainsaw protection. http://www.millworksmfg.com/

I haven't tried the 5.1 so I can't compare, but they are cooler in summer than husky or swedepro.

Here´s a pic of the new ones. Great light pants in strong and durable four way flexible cordura fabric. 70% kevlar on the knees and over the boots inside of the legs. Very light with 6 layers of protection. Price 194 euro, worth every cent. This will be a winner!

It comes together with a new jacket, also in cordura but with Pfanners fantastic sweat layers over the shoulders only. Very light, very flexible, very strong.

Sorry Svein, but that's a No-Go on the sawprotection in the trunks.
Got mine one year ago, the first thing I did was to rip the water repellant fabric out (that goes over the shoes on the inside) This keeps the legs dry in warm weather /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
The jacket looks great. Haven't seen that one before. Is there a good breathing windstopper in it?

Auch, sorry Svein/forum/images/graemlins/giveup.gif, don't bite my head off.
Let's see....

I got my trousers at the Dutch Tree Climbing Competitions 2005 thru Poel bosbouwartikelen. So when where those comps?

5 and 6 may 2005.

Yes, I guess you are right, that's not one year ago but one year minus 14 days. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif Some people are sometimes closer to the fire than others Svein /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Pro Forest Protective Pants (summer)

Chain saw protective pants that can be worn all day just like regular pants and are machine washable. Designed with articulated knees that reduce pull at the waist when you bend and stoop which keeps the pats from “riding” up. Large, vented front and back pockets and a cargo pocket. New, heavy duty zipper on the calves for easy removal. Caribou outer fabric is cool and comfortable while being durable and water repellent. Chain saw protective material is a multiple-layer warp knit blend and is in the front, sides and calves. Conforms to OHSHA regulations. ASTM F1897, ANSI Z133.1 and UL Classified.

I just bought another pair of these Huaqvarna pants.

I got a pair of those last Sept. I wore them a lot while we were doing Katrina work. Even though they are touted as "summer" pants, they are still pretty warm (hot) to wear in warm weather (September in Louisiana).

I would like to know how the SIP's compare to the Huskies in weight and keeping you cool.

Has anybody tried both?

I used to use the husky pants they were quite warm. I wear the SIP's daily now but the temperature hasn't gotten above 75

Are the SIP's lighter-weight? Do they seem less bulky? If so, I may try some.

They are definitely lighter weight and less bulky. I would recommend getting one waist size smaller than you normally get they seem like they are stretching out.

Still waiting for my pants to come in. Husqvarna says that they are back-ordered until the middle of May!

I didn't know that they were that popular. At least people seem to be getting smarter about proper PPE.

After seeing some pics of chainsaw injuries to the upper limbs, I also ordered one of their chainsaw protective shirts. Hope it's worth the price.

Any of you guys have these shirts? Never thought I needed one but I bet that those guys who have cut their biceps and shoulders didn't think that they would need it either.
