Chainsaw lanyards

I can't see why a buckingham wouldn't be sufficient. Drayer makes a really thin lanyard that tree stuff sells. That's what I use. It's not break away, but it would break pretty quick.

Be sure to have the weakest link in the lanyard where it attaches to your saddle. If it does break you want the whole batch to get launched. Other wise you're going to have gear snapping back at you.

A saw was snatched from me one time and I had a Buckingham breakaway. I barely felt the tug because it all happened so fast. The lanyard worked like it was supposed to so a bought another. I would also like to mention that the small plastic loops on the Petzle Sequoia break easily if you happen to have a lanyard attached to them and your saw goes bye bye.

So I've been climbing 11 months now and had my first "saw snatcher" the other day. It freaked me out a little bit but no damage was done. Now I'd like to invest in a breakaway lanyard. The teufelberger one seemed expensive but was recommended by a friend. My question is whether or not it's worth the 50 bucks. Or is a buckingham
Breakaway sufficient?
My understanding with the Teufelberger (and I may be misinformed) is that it has two stages to its breakaway. Basically, if you lose the saw for whatever reason, the "screamer" will activate, absorbing shock (in the case that you just dropped it or that it came free from the piece taking it from your hands). If it continues to be pulled, it will then break away fully. I figure that getting an extra chance to save my $700 saw is worth the extra $25 bucks.
Also, for long armed gorillas like myself, it seems a tad bit longer than the Buckingham.

I used the Buckinghams for years on my small saws. (Extended their reach by adding a 10 or 12" saw loop inline once they refused to make groups of longer lanyards for me.) But i would cut them too often making occasional cuts on the ground with the lanyard flopping around and looped around my arm. Now I'm happily using TreeStuffs double snap version. It separates close to the saw handle, so is not in the way for the odd ground cuts. And Bonner says they consistently break at 350lb.. (Still have to lengthen with an added saw loop.)
