Cat Rescue

Steve Connally

Been here much more than a while
Got a call from a panic stricken lady who found me on the cat rescue web site. Her kitty was stuck up about 60' in a little gum tree. She had been up there for at least 48 hours and we had bad storms last night. It took me about 20 minutes and the cat was so happy to seem me, she just about jumped into my arms. She was still kind of pissed when I put her in the rope bag for the ride down. Still a good time at least for me.

Nice job, I wAnt a call too. Been hoping for one. Where in the area did you rescue the southside or the penninsula?

About three weeks ago I got a call from Dan Krause's list. The cat had been in the tree for three days. He made me look good and was very cooperative :) Simple rescue, one throwline toss, isolate the rope, SRT up, reposition to get closer, scoop the cat to my chest and descend. I was a fifteen minute hero. All of the neighbors were gone before I had my rope pulled out of the tree :)

That's good stuff! I just responded to my first cat rescue yesterday. I wansn't the hero though, I brought a climber with me. The cat was up there for almost 4 full days. Live oak 35'-40' up is where she stayed. She was very happy to see Tim join her. He couldn't get her in the rope bag but she did ride down on his chest ok.

I didn't charge for the rescue but we will go back in 3 weeks to trim the same large live oak.

Right on
That's great, it's starting to kick in. Yesterday I got a email from a vet in Australia, she posted a link to the site on Cat World Forum. I'm curently sending post cards to vets and fire departments in areas where there is a climber, so the word is getting out there. I did four last week, all four had been up over three days, silly cats.
Anyone else what to get in the directory? email me your info at krausclimbing@msn.com
Cheers
Dan

I charge $75. I keep it resonable but not to cheap because I don't want to be getting cats out that have not been given enough time to get down on there own. I get a lot of tips, There's nothing like getting a call from someone who is so happy to have found me, I get there and there is already a ladder to the lower limbs, climb up another 20 feet to the cat then come down inside of ten minutes and get handed 100 bucks with more thanks than I get from doing a fantastic pruning job.

Dan I would like to join your crew of cat rescuers but didn't see where to sign up at your site.

Thanks,

Dan

Charging is difficult for me because I am a cat lover. I have actually rescued about 5 over the years. One time I was driving down the highway and saw a kitten on the side of the road with a soup can stuck on his head. I stopped and got out the first aid kit and cut the can off with some trauma shears. I cant believe tha cat handt stumbled onto the road and gotten squashed.

Anyone ever found a dead cat in a tree?

What does it matter?

If a cat owner is distressed because kitty is up in a tree for days it is even more of a problem than a dead cat, IMO.

What does it matter? I was just wondering if anyone had, thats all Danny boy.

I never said cat rescue wasnt a needed service. Ive rescued at least a dozen in my career. And even once rescued a pet lizard, and once a 1200 dollar remote control plane.

I'm looking for balloons here lately. Some guy put an $11000 engagement ring in a helium balloon...duh!!! Ive had to rescue my own cat twice from low altitude trees and they were good for 20 fresh punctures.

so far i have received two calls from the site, both far far away from my house but was still willing to help, you central jersey climbers gotta get registered and help out my poor little pick up truck

I've had to get a couple of dead cats out, not a fun thing to do. They were both stuck the same way, hanging in a tight fork from their armpits.

climbing a tree to retrieve a dead cat = not fun. Too bad you couldn't snag him with the throwball if no one is looking

I've pulled part of dead cat carcass out of a clogged flood irrigation valve once in the middle of the night
