Cat Rescue

Tom turned our 6 year old daugter on to cat rescue at the Texas Tree Climbing Championship. I can't tell you how many stuffed cats we have had to put in the trees for her to practice! She can't quit talking about it.

That's too funny. My 5 year old loves watching cat rescues on the computer and he pretends he's saving them sometimes. I'll have to put his stuffed cat (milo) in a real tree for him to practice. Nice one Tom!

Welcome to treebuzz!

I like the idea of a feline rescue exhibition event for TCCs.

My cat, Scourge, could go into training now as the official ca rescue cat.

I have rescued two cats and a macaw (parrot)that had got out of a cage .never got him and and wondered what it was going to be like when we met!he went tree to tree than he flew to the owner, fun stuff.

I did my first cat rescue today and it was mega easy. By the time I got there, the cat had moved from the trees to the top of a mini-mall. Owners said the cat had been up on top of the mall for over a week and just wanted me to either grab it or just scare it down to the ground.

I was hoping to get the cat, but as soon as it saw me, it bolted for the ground.

As they were paying me the $100, the cat was playing near our feet and all the neighbors were smiling.

Another 10 minute hero!

Got a call two weeks ago. Cat was in the tree for a couple of days (the time was right for some intervention). After 3 phone calls from the client, ironing out logistics and fees, I pulled out of the driveway only to get the report the cat was awaiting them at the front door.

But I expect a call from them this fall for some dead branch rescue.

I got a call from the website and just finished rescuing a cat who had been 70' up a tree for 5 days.... when i set my line he started climbing further and by the time i was up to my tie in point, he was 85' and too far for me go. so i set there for a few minutes and started calling him. he climbed back down to me where i put the "death grip" on him(i've had one get away at that point--- never again). i then stuffed him into a rope bag and cinched it up tight and tied the drawstring up in a knot so he could not get out. We made a smooth touchdown, and i turned the bag over to the owner and instructed her not to open it till she was inside with the door closed. it went perfectly and i left with $100........

thanks Dan!

This is my preferred method as well...

Ditto on that technique! Well done Rob!

I can't tell you how many greenhorns I've seen try to carry a cat in their arms during the descent......it usually ends up badly and scratchily. Stuff the little bugger in a bag. It calms them, and reduces the potential embarrassment of taking $100 for trying to get the cat out of the tree, and failing, cause the cat died when it hit the ground.

ps I love cats.

I went to a cat rescue a while ago with a friend...he decided to go up the tree. We asked the cat's owner for a pillowcase to put the cat in. My friend got the cat (only about 20' up a little cypress), stuffed it in the case and began to rappel down then:

RRiip!

Meeooorrww!

Thud!

The cat was ok...but I've stopped using pillowcases.

Got to do a rescue this eve. Got there at 9pm. Cat had been up for a full week already- no water, no food.

It was perched atop a previously topped liquidambar tree. I climbed a neighboring tree, swung into a closer tree, reset my line, and basically lowered down right on top of the cat. It was so tired it didn't even lift its head to look at me. I opened a can of food to offer it, but it didn't even eat it.

Nothing special- I just grabbed it, put it in a backpack, then brought 'er down. 20 minutes later "Lucky Noel" was in the laundry room drinking water, eating, and pretty much frolicking around!

Hoo-yah, Nick...now you are having fun. I got two calls, Dan, over the last 2 months or so...first was about 45 minutes away...the lady was almost manic with worry...she said $100 was fine. I got loaded up and about 300 yards down the road at about 5:30 pm - it would be dark soon. She called me and said her husband came home and found out she was hiring out getting the cat down -- he said, "No way" and she called off the job...cat had been up for 2 days.

Her husband had been out of town...he had tried to rescue the cat a few years before and broke his arm in the process...she didn't want a repeat. I think they were probably both nut cases...anyway, that job did not pan out.

The second call, a lady wanted me to come get the cat down, had been up a day or two. She had been calling all around and I was the only one to call her back. It was already late and dark so I was to go the next day. She called in AM and the cat had come down.

Your website was how they found me so I expect to get more calls. Here is one I did last year...the garbage can worked pretty well.

I've gotten at least half a dozen calls from the site and a dozen more from a local emergency vet clinic that got my name from a customer. Because of the driving distances I usually charge $150... but I do some free too, it just depends on the customer.

In July my son and I got one down that had been in the tree for between 15 and 17 days. It was asleep when I got to it and didn't weigh hardly anything. It was weird picking up such a weightless cat. Last I heard it was doing fine and back up to 11 pounds.
I know some guys think it's stupid but I love doing it and the customers are always extremely happy and grateful. I'd hate to have to get a dead one down though.

Way to go Steve and thanks Dan... and nobody trusts you EZ, they're not gonna call.

My last one didn't go so good... climbed a 60' chestnut oak in the misting fog. Cat had been up for 4 days. It wigged when I got close and crawled out a dead stub, I thought that was it. I moved fast and put the vulcan death grip on it. Paralyzed for a moment the cat figured I was gonna at it or something and went ballistic. Took the whip to the deck and hit the ground running..........8 lives to go......crazy, next time I'm bringing a carp net.
