The wk comp rate does sound great. 31% here with no claims. I have the same problems as you. I do all the books, climbing, estimates,etc. I used to do all repairs too. I have learned to let repairs go ouyt to others,but I can depend on who does that to do it right. I also have an accountant for some of the stuff.
How or when does a business go about hiring sales staff or maybe a business manager. I guess what Im getting at is I dont want to do just sales and paper work, yet could I be more profitable if I could just do the work and someone else did that? I would probably need more employees which is a problem.
I think TCI and ISA should offer more business planning and operation courses. I will have to email my suggestions I guess.

Hire a part-time administrator to do the invoicing, payroll, bookkeeping, answer phones, all that back office stuff. If what you are good at is selling then do that but if that's not your strength or desire then do whatever that is. Sales drives growth. If you are available to do more sales then you'll be able to afford the extra staffing.
Definitely courses in business planning and management need to be offered.

I discovered my newest passion...surfing! Last year at the International. That's what I would like to do. Call in and check on the business and bank account from my board. (I already have a water resistant cell.)

I'll second that Mark! I would like to see business operation type courses directed at the Tree Care industry.

I can relate with everything you said. Just finding someone that wants to WORK much less a good climber.
