The "colchica" in the second name... suppose that implies content of "colchicine" such as used in pharmacy.
Crocus culchicum has that in it.
I learned that when I was about 19 when my roommates grew certain kinds of plants in their closets. Soaking the seeds in the colchine rich juice from squeezing autumn crocus bulbs, alters the seed growth for "special seeds".
