Lighter than the Gecko carbon fiber? Or are they the same? Those CF spurs might temp me away from my long gaff Bashlin/caddy pad setup...but it would be hard to spend the $$ when I am so satisfied with what I have. Curses for being a gear geek /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

I kinda thought that might be so, Mark, from your comment re weight. Are they on the US market yet, and if so, do you know of a supplier? Last I heard, Sherrill was still not offering the Gecko CF, just the Gecko II aluminum. Cost??

I love the look of the Geckos, but I've never liked tree gaffs. Feels like your on stilts when you get into small diameter wood. So I was wondering 1)if people foung the gecko gaffs like tree gaffs? and 2)is there a smaller gaff available? I may still consider them if there isn't a smaller gaff, my brother in law is a mould maker/engineer and knows his way around tooling. Could have me a custom set of gaffs fabbed up. /forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm really not sure of the figures I was quoted. I guess 30-40% more for the cf ones. The other factor is that they are not adjustable so you need to be able to try before you buy.

Thanks for the info, all. Rupe, I remember now that they were not adjustable, but is it right that there are several shank lengths available? Seems like you had some measurements posted back a while, Mark. I'll do a search.
Didj, what are your after market gaffs like? Were they designed for the Gecko CF or are they a modification you concocted yourself?

Boy, that's a lotta bling for those babies... /forum/images/graemlins/ahhhhh.gif

Another great thread. Seems that the "lighter is better" approach is favored by most everyone here. With that said, is anyone using Wolfclaws? Though a little on the heavy side, these things have solved the scuffed raw shin problem for me. The ability to stand in them for hours with zero pain is well worth carrying a little more weight, at least in my view. Anyone else?

I tried them out once, shortly, when a fellow brought a pair to a climbing workshop I was facilitating. I did't care for the flex they displayed, and there were a whole bunch of nuts and bolts to keep your eye on. Seemed awfully bulky, too. That's been several years ago...I can't remember anything else.

Hi Burnham,
I have a friend who is a tool maker, got him to make some gaffs more in the Bucks Pole gaff style...The CF's come in four sizes

S 42cm
M 44cm
L 46cm
XL 48cm

My old pads were the wrap-around velcro cinch pads.

I have those, and they have a lot of play at the bottom of the pad (right where the 'shank'(?), or flat metal bar comes out. Right about at the bottom of my calf. The leather is stretched.
Has this ever happened to yours? If yes, do you know a way I can fix them.
What I don't understand is that I've barely used them. And I've never been able to keep them from moving side to side. Or does anybody know? john
