Can I get help identifying this burl? I was told it is a white cherry.

I think I saw the picture in the gallery. It is not a burl, but a severely girdled Japanese cherry.

Wood is still probably pretty given that it is a cherry

You could always cook with it after trying to make something out of it, but not the other way around. I call it designer firewood if it doesn't turn out.

Thank you both. The plan is to open it up and see what we are dealing with. I will post more pictures when I get into it. It may be a while though.

Can I get help with this tree also? I am dealing with wood from Bethesda MD country club and they said this is a cherry also.

Hmm, the bark looks like black cherry, but the wood looks like Japanese cherry in that it does not have a very noticeable color difference between the sap wood and heart wood. What ever the case it is rare around here to find a cherry that diameter, so make something out of it.
