Boots Boots Boots

It is, but I hear they are replacing it with something. Mountain Tools still has a few if you have small feet. I keep resoling mine with dot rubber, hopeing the new ones come out soon.....

for arch support i bow to the almighty Super Feet insoles (the green ones). Before i read about them on this website, i had TWO pairs of insoles, a regular came-with-the-boots pair and on top of them, a gel thing for my heels. Can't tell you how much better everything felt after i ditched all that for a single stiff pair of super feet... ahhhhhhh!!!

As for the boots... I'm a one pair man myself... not much for carrying too much stuff between the worktrucks and my car every day (lazy) and i hate having too much prep to hop into a tree (also i almost never know what a day will hold until that morning... i think my boss usually doesn't either... so much for planning ahead...)

I have a little dream of learning to make a boot and building us all the fabled all-around perfect tree boot...
Murph,
I won't call you a pessimist, i'm affraid it's not out there either...:(

Seems the mountaineering style boots may be too stiff for regular climbing/pruning?

Got tired of the Keen's soft soles and feeling every pebble i stepped on. so a few months ago i got a pair of La Sportiva's Glacier Evos. LOVE them so far. hoping they'll give me at least a good year. Stiff soles, but not so stiff that they muck my walking. They footlock better than anything i've ever worn!! even when i don't get a good bite on the rope, they stick great! also, the fairly pointy toes have come in handy more than a few times already when i have to tip toe across the only slightly exposed 2x4s on wood fences. waterproof too
If they last long enough, i'll definitely get another pair.

recently got a pair of lowas.. they are the most comfortable boot ive ever worn, but yet to put on a pair of spikes with em.. I have had the steel shank boots for removals but dont care for changing boots constantly.

I just bought a pair of boots today. The last two were Asolo. The boot did well but the sole did not. I went with a pair of EMS Bomber GTX. The Asolo was a great boot but the price was getting too high.

Merrell Chameleon Wrap Mid Gore-Tex Hiking Boot, only problem is the arch so therefore they are not the "best" for foot locking but I enjoy them very much.

I have ankles like an old lady so I'm sporting some Carolina 10 inch loggers, only thing I don't like is that when I used spurs for the first time they split the top 2 layers on the sole, so they go back to the shop once I finish work before they close.

I climb in a pair of baileys 16inch logger boots made for spur climbing they are heavy as hell but very durable. I sometimes even wear them when pruning as well if I'm not in the mood to switch my boots out to my much lighter pair of Georgia hiking boots. Ive got my eye on some asolos but they are a bit spendy for me at the moment

Haix Tibet Forest - very good chainsaw resistant and steel toe boot, the sole is a bit non flexible for my liking, good for removals, ok for pruning, best waterproof boot but too hot for the summer.

I have tried many different boots as I have been doing tree work daily for about 16 years or so. I have a pair of Wesco logging boots(very expensive) that I've had for 12 years but they are heavy and not comfortable for walking. Montrail GTX is what I wear most of the time. I'm on my 5th pair and find they last me for a year or so and run for about $125.00. They are great for footlocking and give me good support on my spikes they seem to be a bit sturdier than the Merril or Columbia boots that I have tried.

i am impressed w/all the folks who use asolo. i have had four days w/bomber gtx and they seem pretty good so far. two days in the air and two on the ground watching my hopeful (future)climbers. feeling good for just a $100.00
