Book Club

I just finished 'Woodsburner' by John Pipkin.

its a fictionalized account based on the accidental woods fire that Henry David Thoreau actually started. I t burned 300 acres and he was labeled 'woodsburner' for many years.

Fire is used as a device for change in the characters lives.

'Lusty' and 'Thoreau' never were in the same conversation before reading this book. It's not smutty by any means but there is a theme in a couple of the characters accounts.

Trees: Up by the Roots: Healthy soils and Trees in the Built Environment

Fiction: Anita Blake Vampire series or Diana Gibaldan, Stephen King, Terry Goodkin, Karen Morning....sci fi reading is my way of getting away from the real world - sci fi/fantasy is the way to go!!!

Actually, I read everything, if I can't find anything to read - the cereal box will do!!

Just reread Cross Bones by Kathy Reichs - excellent mystery and she refers obliquely to arborists and the ISA convention held in Montreal a few years ago. Helps her solve the puzzle.

A Good read

On vacation reread Cross Bones by Kathy Reichs. She refers to the ISA conference in Montreal a few years ago. The mystery is unravled by her recogniton of various names and tree varieties being the same. A very good read and use of current events.

The Road was one of the most amazing books I've ever read. At about page two I was THINKING in black and white. Most authors try to go the other way; McCarthy has a way of dragging you down into his dark place. Child of God and No Country for Old Men are equally good, but I don't recommend the former for anyone who is already depressed. McCarthy really makes you feel something, which to me is the sign of a great author.

I am also a big fan of Hemingway. Islands in the Stream and For Whom the Bell Tolls are two great reads.

Anything by Carl Hiaasen if you want a good laugh.

i just finished this. really friggin good. im going to pick up some more mccarthy next time im at the book store. Margaret Atwood is another good writer of future dystopia's although shes a bit more light-hearted.

The Feathermen by Rannulph Fiennes. Best espionage book EVER. And it's a true story. It'll blow your mind!

Midnight Club by James Patterson was pretty good too.
