bodythrust vr\'s footlocking

at work we only use the bodythrust technique ...
i was wondering if anyone else uses the BTT...
could someone give some pro's an con's, who have tried both? thank you very much

i have been wanting to setup an practice the footlocking so next year i could enter a comp.
thats the only thing used at a competition right, its more about speed right???

what could be a little cheaper make ur own setup at first for some 13mm rope be ??

thank you for all your information an time ...be safe and climb smart...

Re: bodythrust vr\'s footlocking

Give some more specifics mein dood....

Everyone does the bodythrust everyday. Day in, and day out. Even on spurs for removals.

You talkin bodyhump vs footlock for long ascent on a DRT setup?

50ft bodythrust vs. 50ft FL will tell you which one to choose. Try em' both out just for giggles.

Lotsa fellas have renounced dual rope foot locking for work practices cause it sucks. But it still remains in competition for all the inch worm bad asses to dominate.

Help?

Re: bodythrust vr\'s footlocking

Footlocking is superior in speed, energy output (efficiency), and ergonomics as compared to bodythrusting.

No doubt!

Re: bodythrust vr\'s footlocking

SRT as well. However, I dont' regret learning all the basic rope climbing techniques. It will make you better in the long run. Just don't get bogged down. Footlock anything that doesn't have limbs for a ways. "A ways" is relative to what you prefer to do. But really, learn how to footlock, you may need that skill later for various reasons. Body thrust? Yes, we all do it but try not to do it more than you have to. If you can climb the tree and tend slack, do that. Body thrusting sucks.

If there is some body thrusting virtuoso out there I appologize. It would be worth ticking you off, however, just to find out if you really do exist.

I try not to do either anymore. SRT is so much easier for me. Really not a ton of effort in ascent once you get used to it. Read Tom Dunlaps article thats floating around here somewhere. Really good synopsis of SRT.

Re: bodythrust vr\'s footlocking

I started with bodythrusting (thus the name treehumper), learned footlocking then SRT. I use them each where it is applicable and makes sense. The more tools in the bag the more efficient you are.

I throw a monkey fist your way... take that!

Re: bodythrust vr\'s footlocking

Bodythrusting will do damage to your elbows eventually.

Footlocking will do damage to your ankle and shoulders.

SRT will not damage anythings at all because it's as natural movement as walking stairs ;-)

So try to get all these techniques in your personal toolbox and you will find out wich works best for you and your body.

Re: bodythrust vr\'s footlocking

Body thrusting is terrible!!!!!!If footlocking is feasible that is my preferred way of access to a crown. Everyone will body thrust at times though, it is just the nature of tree work. Even if you don't like footlocking knowing how really helps...a modified footlock is a lot better in mid-air than body thrusting. and just a note srt is not perfect either(although some would say otherwise) but it is another tool for the trade. The more the tools the easier the work and that means less strain on the body!

Re: bodythrust vr\'s footlocking

If you have been body thrusting most of your career it will take some time to get used to footlocking. Like any new technique it takes time and effort before it becomes an efficient part of your skill set. But in my opinion footlocking is an indispensable skill nowaday's...especially when you get stuck climbing a tree that's got a serious lean to it. footlocking beats monkeyhumping your way up the trunk, not to mention it's way faster and efficient once you get it down.

Re: bodythrust vr\'s footlocking

I footlock the tail with a split tail drt...works best in most cases. gets you into the tree and you are ready to work as soon as you get there. IMO

Re: bodythrust vr\'s footlocking

instead of footlocking my tail drt I use a pantin. It gets me where I need to be. With my line set through a friction saver it doesnt seem to terribly inefficient... on second thought, its pretty inefficient. better then airhumping 30 feet i guess
