BMG Storage

I just purchased the Branch Manager grapple and broom and wish I had done so sooner. I'm looking for ideas on how to store these attachments (especially the grapple) on a trailer or a truck when they're not in use. If there's already a thread on this I could not find it. Thanks.

Interested as well. I would like to have both grapples on the truck or trailer as well as a bucket and forks. We tried putting the BMG up in the back of the pick up truck (ezdumper) but getting it out between the truck and trailer became rather dangerous. Been thinking about a dedicated flat bed (switch-n-go) to mount everything on so it is accessible anytime from the sides. I would be able to put our 20 matts on as well if this option pans out. But until I get 60k gotta figure something out.

Doesn't the grapple travel on the machine? We typically keep the grapple on and just use it to move around a clean up bucket we have and position that on the trailer. Might change a bit with the broom (which we are buying but don't have) but right now we travel with the Mini, grapple and clean up bucket as well as our track grinder on a 16' trailer. Fits well.

Below are pictures of how I mounted my rake to the truck.

Also pictured is the 2 areas of the bmg I'd try to use (one of them ) to make a rack for holding it. You could mount a square tube and either lower the bmg into it (if using the area they use for the hitch), or drive it straight in (if using the area between the tree push spikes)...then just pin it.

Mert, instead of a flat bed you may like a roll back better. You can still mount stuff on it and drive stuff on it ...... mini skid, mini e, stumper, you get the idea. Even use it to tow your broken personal vehicle home or the garage. Just a little food for thought.

If you use one of the side racks for the broom don't rely on the hitch pins to hold it securely. Those racks were on the first couple of trailers and brooms fell off going down the road. No damages or injury. Whew!

I need to explore a shelf for the attached grapple to rest on, up high. My machine plus grapple is 9' long. Bucket is similar.

A fold-down shelf might work for backing the machine on, lifting loader arms, folding shelf down, and lowering arms to rest attachment.

Other ideas?

For that tight, under-bed storage, a removable sign for the day, similar in concept to a wig-wag, might be a good reminder to the driver.

Ratchet strap that all together tight, imo.
Booms/ blades need independent tie-downs, at least on larger machine when on the truck/ trailer, I believe. Don't attach copy with banging, clanging. A soft cover might be worthwhile, for police, and tweakers.

While customizing your truck, consider a second door/ barn doors that securely lock the rear. You have tons of storage space in the bed, but it's vulnerable. I might add a top-hinging door with hasps.

Older thread, but has anyone come up with any other solutions on the rake storage? I just got my rake yesterday and decided to build a storage box for it. This way should I need to load it I can lift one end and slide it vs lifting the whole thing.

Nothing special, just something to protect it a little and to make sliding it easier.

The post that locks into the bmg hangs on this hanger.

I'll likely be strapping this down on top of my polesaw storage box.

stopped making the rack partly for this reason I did not have easy fool proof pin in system, you had to use to ratchet straps to secure them a bit of a pia - + limited run quantity s made them to expensive
plan to redesign with bracketing kit to bolt to different mounting applications
not sure if a tree guy wants to spend 4 ~ 500 bucks on a rake rack

A great way to store the BMG is to mount a 6X6 X~11" steel box (just like on the rake) wherever you can. To store the BMG just grab the box unplug the hoses,.unhitch and let it hang. as long as the hoses don't leak its locked on solid - hanger will swing so ratchet that down
Got that Idea from Chisholms company - they had a steel box welded to a trailer - they would drive up, grab it with their mini and lock in the front of the machine no front tie downs needed for the mini!
( not sure how DOT would look at that but it sure worked quick and easy, it also was a boxer 320 a baby skid in comparison these days to the world of monster mini skids)

Another friend just mounted a solid 2.25 X 2.25 OD vertical post to his chipper and just pinned the 3x3 hanger tube in. - I suppose the receiver hitch could work also. now the grapple is swinging - so ratchet that down - some guys will angle the grapple back and grab the hitch plate to stop the swing -( probably a good way to bend the arms if not careful ~ not sure bout that)

Nice Box
suggestion: maybe put a steel band - or ratchet strap around the box to keep the sides together long term.
I dunno i am sure you glued and screwed the ends but I don't trust plywood end grain
