Those terms do vary somewhat between manufactures, but not a ton.

SWLL and WLL are the same thing, just one is wearing high vis.

ABS/ Mean Breaking Strength is a really interesting in how they come up with those stats. Usually they use a negative standard deviation to come up with those breaking numbers, but I don't know the specific deviation that they use. So the rope manufactures are already erring on the side of caution when they say what the MBS of the rope is.

Min and Max breaking strength are typically not published numbers because they can vary a lot, and on their own they don't mean a whole lot.

The z does specifically state a breaking strength of 5,400lbs. but they dont describe how to get there and thats not what the standard is for.

I’ve read some manufacturers definition of ABS as average. Which is fairly meaningless as the range could be 100lbs to 10,000lbs with an average of 5,400. I’d hate to get the lower end.. I’m sure the margins are much tighter.. and likely within 3-10% max of each other but that is unpublished.

I recall when Sampson 16 strand was 8,600 and then I’m guessing their policies changed to make it ~6,500 (without looking it up). The rope construction hasn’t changed best I can tell. And I do know the 8,600 is actually fairly realistic as I’ve abused the shit out of that rope in rigging situation.

I think better verbiage in the Z would be SWL as defined by the manufacturer greater than 5400..
there is also a discrepancy with carabiner strength too. The kn converted to lbs is stronger than the rope. Which I guess the rope is suppose to be the weak link.. but a life support failure is a big deal if any part fails. At least in a rigging situation there is a chance of shit not going entirely sideways
 
FYI Gap Arborist Supply has some great deals on ropes for a couple more days. I got 150' of Yale Vantage(Blue Moon, different colorway) for $85. They have another variation called Poison Moon that's on sale cheap now too.

Aramids, Vectran and dyneema are being used on covers for more cut and heat resistance on smaller diameter ropes.
A more recent method is an inner cover of an aramid that doesn’t get tensioned when loaded. Mammut came up with, I think, for a dynamic rope.

I’ve noticed several suppliers stopped listing the actual MBS for ropes and just put up the 5k or 5.4k listing, not sure why I’ve even seen it on vortex which has around 8000 rating.

Thanks I’ll keep my eye out there. I also want to get one and cut the middle of the folded stitched webbing to use as a breakaway
 
Bumping this thread. Any more experience that folks have had? Arbsession has it in stock but does not have the specs for the passable splice. Fine with me as I don’t use a zz or anything that would need it.

Price is still up there
 
Works really well with 9mm epicord with the catalyon hitch, I’ll snag a picture of the splice from Yale tomorrow. Haven’t ran any mechanicals on it but have heard good things about the rope runner pro running well. Mostly MRS use so far from me, a couple of ascents but not enough to give an opinion.
 
Splice compared to a Teufelberger charity/drenaline splife (that happened to be zigzag passable) lock stitching looked a little meh to me but was an early run of blue 32. My understanding for the Yale splice is that the core is removed and some sort of material is added I want to say dyneema? Don’t quote me it’s been a minute. Ive been told it can also take a “normal” splice like blue moon as well if the splice is concerning or you don’t care to have the “mechanical passable”.

The splice seems to be similar to the discontinued Slaice, but maybe relies on a longer bury of the dyneema, instead of the stitches.
 
Only real complaint if I had one is that when through a pulleysaver or even the Naja friction saver the line is really slick, slicker than brand new drenaline, but I despise climbing with gloves so that might just be a me issue. I’m running the 11.5 version as well.
 
One thing I find very frustrating is the lack of info on elongation. Yale just says ‘low’. Derenline is too bouncy for me, xtatic is boarder line with much over 100’ tips..
Any one know the % of elongation.
Also abs of 5,000 lbs?! What happened to the 5,400 standard?
