Big Shot sighting system

So I have been following some Big Shot threads lately and I kinda came up with an idea for developing an idea for a removable and adjustable mechanical sighting system. I know this site is full of us creative types and one or two professional critics so I am curious as to what you guys think. My concept is an adjustable peep sight similar to the quadrant sight on a M203 grenade launcher. Im not going the laser sight concept so every one can throw that out the window.

Has anyone seen or heard of anything like this? Im looking in to patenting the idea and coming up with a working prototype. I guess the big question would be how do I go about marketing my new piece of tree gear?
I understand that there are pros and cons to this but the bottom line is that If I can get enough people to attaching these things to their BS's I could hopefully buy a new bucket truck. Hey what can I say? Gettin old sucks and I dont have much of a retirement plan.

I've thought about this a few times and never came up with a workable scheme.

A rifle has a relatively flat trajectory while the BS has a high arching trajectory. To hit a crotch 80' up from a point 30' from the base of the tree, I find myself aiming ~6'-8' above/behind the direct line of sight to an invisible point above said crotch . To hit the same crotch from a point 10' away from the base, I use a lesser draw on the BS pouch, aim only a few feet above/behind the direct line of sight and barely lob the bag over.

The only sighting system I know of that can rapidly compensate for those differences (let alone additional heights and distances from base), is the 'Kentucky windage/feel for the pole/feel for the pull method I currently use. I'm happily finding that it is becoming fairly accurate after considerable practise.

However, I truly wish you the best of luck in developing a better method.

Thanks for the input guys. A little about me, I have been a working arborist for 15 years and before I started climbing I was a sniper in the army for 8 years. I know a little about climbing and a little about shooting and ballistics. Again that is why I am using the idea of a sight similar to a grenade launcher that lobs 40mm grenades instead of throw balls. Actually a mortar sight would be ideal but I want to keep this simple, durable and affordable.

I think having a sighting system makes sense for having a consistent point of aim on the front. The double rings is a good concept as well as yours probably KS. My problem as an archer and I'm sure you know this KS, having a front sight is meaningless without a consistent rear anchor and body awareness. All of the above is good stuff but practice and knowing your weap*n of choice, which the BS is, like the back of your hand will pay dividends to your accuracy. Yes I do have sights on my bows but I also still shoot instinctively because sights get bumped and sometimes you just have to shoot by feel. I use the BS by hand and without sights and usally don't have problems with accuracy. Yes I know in one thread I bitched about hitting the same limb 3 times before I finally hit the sweet spot, but I was 3 inches off at @90 feet. I just don't see any rubber band powered sling shot, throwing bags of lead shot with a tail attached, achieving much more consistent results. Hell I was impressed that I had a 3 inch group at @90 feet.

the reason we hit the same limb below the crotch is thats where we're looking.

thats why i used the two circles. i look there , and thats where the beanbag goes everytime.

You are 100% correct Family. In my case I was looking at the big opening above the limb in stead of picking a single point in space. Any fellow hunters will know the saying "Don't aim at the chest, aim at a single hair on the chest"

Well, i guess the more things change, the more things stay the same. I've been here 11 years now and victory Drive is still VD Drive, but they are trying to make it better. You will have to make a return trip some day and check out the National Infantry Museum. Awesome facility. They also breached the old dams on the river and we now have the longest urban whitewater venue in the world and a 1200foot zipline crossing the river.
