Big mulberry

Location
MO
When a customer calls and claims to have a big tree, I am usually skeptical. "Big" can mean anything from 8" diameter on up. This tree, though, was 6' diameter, the largest red mulberry in Missouri, before it fell down. The owners wanted me to mill up anything that would make a board. I had to modify the clamps on the sawmill so I could cut 3' long "logs". This was one of those PITA jobs that I'm glad I charged by the hour! On the plus side, I got some amazing lumber from it, and didn't hit a single nail!

Was the tree registered as the state champion? Sad to lose such a tree. I imagine the grain pattern is absolutely beautiful.

Yes, it was a state champion. Has some real pretty wood, lots of rotten wood, and everything in between. Hope to finish up this weekend. This will be my 4th trip to the job site. This job has inspired me to install a wireless remote winch.
