Best 15" Chipper

We bought an 1821 from Morbark last year. We’ve been so frustrated with their service that we almost traded it in for a new Bandit. Our machine has been down several times in the past year simply because we had to wait on Morbark to get us parts. (Can’t get an oil filter unless you order it from Morbark? What a bunch of nonsense!) Currently it’s been sitting at Morbark for the past MONTH waiting for some basic engine repairs that are covered under warranty but they’re just dragging their feet getting it done. So disappointed, it’s likely we‘ll never buy from Morbark again. We bought a brand new Sg-75 grinder from Bandit this year. Their service and support is far superior to Morbark.

Sorry to hear

Is it the PSI 350? I get my filters from The Vermeer dealer 5 mins away if needed, same engines in Vermeer’s as Morbark. You having timing issues ? We did in the spring and was all fixed up now. Covered under warranty as well but they did give us a new 1821 to use. Our dealer here is good for everything

Yes, the PSI engine. The bolt on starter broke and the distributor cap is bad. We deal with Morbark factory directly as we’re only 3 hrs away. They did finally get us a loaner this week after much hassle.

That’s crazy I’ve been going there since 2009 and only once had to leave the machine overnight
And that was over miscommunication

Also never for engine problems they make the chipper not the engines so I wouldn’t take it there for that reason
I take mine to Cat when I have Cat problems only once

Yes same with mine, was the distributor cap, sent the timing off. the dealer here was great getting that issue resolved. We were told to switch the cap every 400-450 hours

Brand new numbers:
1821 with 6.2 ford and winch is 9486 lbs
15xp with 6.2 and winch is 8020 lbs

Hydraulic line setup and controls for winch seem head and shoulders better than Bandit. Both have hyd rotate for chute which is very nice, bandit has better design for angling it up and down. Almost exact same price and interest with $0 down. Both are amazing machines with each having great attention to detail in welds and placement of features.

I hear what you're saying about Vermeer and their parts. We own a s800tx mini. The track rollers don't even last a year, and you have to buy them direct from them, and those puppies cost $200 a piece...and there's a lot of them! I spoke with a Ditch Witch rep, and he said that their track rollers have replaceable bearings, and can be fixed for about $20. I wish somebody would have told me that before buying the Vermeer. And hence the reason for wanting to start the thread. The BC1500 seems really nice, a very well thought out machine, but is it a maintenance nightmare?
In regards to the diesel vs gas, I would prefer diesel. But the quote I got from all 3 companies was substantially higher for diesel engines...anywhere from $10k-$20k more! Is it worth it?
Old post I know but, the track rollers have replaceable bearings on the S800tx. You should have looked in your parts manual. About $24 each roller with seals form Vermeer.

Yes nice.

A "Turbo" seperator that spins out the heavier dust and dirt particles from the air before it goes into the filter saves me about 2/3rd of the filter cleaning.
So I asked the salesman about that, all of the diesels come with one but not the gassers?? In hindsight I should have haggled that into the sale. Which would you recommend?
