bees

I just got stung by bees in 120ft oak. I ran out of rope on the way down. Thank god for my split tail climbing system. I was able to cross over on to a lower limb to continue my decent.
Any suggestions on how to get the swelling down on my hand, It’s so swollen I can’t make a fist. I took Benadryl and Advil. Hope I can work tomorrow.

It's gonna hurt a day or so. I'll bet they chased your a$$ didn't they? Yellow jackets are wicked mean if you disturb their nest. How many stings?

Benedryl and ice for the swelling. Get an epi pen and keep it with your first aid kit in case you get lots of stings in one attack... enough of'em can be fatal.

Don't take the benedryl at work, it really does make you sleepy.

six stings two on left hand one on right. two on lower back of head. the helmet helped a little. and two shot to the back. ya the chased the hell out of me.

You're lucky they weren't white faced hornets. I had a climber get stung 50+ times years ago. It was a removal, and he was spiking up, while lanyarded in (old school, this was 10+ years ago!), and he had to tie in and descend with his eyes swollen shut. A great argument for setting your rope from the ground!

yellow jackets

That's nasty, more rare for them to be nesting up in hollows, but they do it. Since you're still alive I guess you're not allergic, whew! Tis' the season for yellow jackets, by late August they peak their population per nest. They scent mark you when they sting so the others can find you more easily. Make sure you're good and scrubbed for tomorrow, I was attacked by two different nests two days in a row because I was a "marked man". Lessons learned. Hope the swelling goes down. A friend uses ammonia at the sting site to neutralize the toxin and reduce pain but that should be done soon after you're stung. Ice ice ice.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I took some Benadryl and Advil. I have been icing the hand since I got home today. The hand is bigger then ever, looks like a surgical glove blown up in to a balloon. I called my customers and told them I had to reschedule for later in the week. This sucks I was all pumped to work this week. O well
Year’s ago I had a similar reaction and had the cortisone pill. I hoping I don’t have to do that though. No need for more hospital bills

I'll say. Man, that would be a horrible experience.

I was very lucky last week. I was climbing a very small (20' tall) Autumn Blaze Maple last week. Something casually flew by my face, so I simply moved my head away. Then it happened! The hornet got me right on the nose.

I was waiting for more, but nothing. Since I couldn't see if there was a nest, I decided not to push it and get down. As I was descending my sinuses realeased. I had snot all over my face. I had to "farmer blow" my nose while I was walking to the truck. I looked up at my TIP and saw only a baseball sized nest. I was lucky...

dude video that...... i can picture it now you yelling and screaming at the bees and chasing them back in to their little hell hole. man i got hit hard this time last year going to throw a dead cherry on a fence line at a grade school. the tree was between a barbed wire fence and a wooden fence. needless to say the grass was four feet high and debris from the cherry was all in between the fence. so i take the chainsaw and stick it over the barbed wire fence and run it awhile to scare off any snakes, then i proceed to climb over the fence to notch and drop the tree. while cutting my pie notch i feel a slight sting and thought " well i didn't see any thorn bushes". after that thought all hell breaks loose..... naked and 24 stings and 150 yards later, all while my ground man is laughing hysterically, i realize that i don't really like bees! those turd bombers chased me forever.... got in my clothes.....

On my stings i put meat tenderizer on them. mix with just a drop or two of water, and it works wonders. i'm glad you didnt panic and unclip. i saw a guy do that once and fell ten feet onto his back, luckily he wasnt hurt

Now THERE'S a picture I could have gone without, all day.

I assume it was yellow jackets on you too. 24 hits, damn, that's serious.

I went to the walk in clinic this morning around eleven. The doctor proscribed me prednisone which is a steroid, I should be able to work like incredible hulk tomorrow. Lol
I took the pills this morning hope fully the swelling goes done it’s been five hours and little has improved. The doctor did say I will be able to work tomorrow. As of now I still can’t make a fist. I hoping I don’t have to push back work again as I don’t want to lose jobs. I think I will wake up early tomorrow morning Around five to take my next dose.
