Jeff, am I your Dad?

my daddy always said, " you can learn something from everyone."

[/ QUOTE ] I always say that when I teach.

i say it like "Each man is his own savant"; you can learn from all, and everyone has things that they are both strong and weak in; keeps ya humble; and open!

I like that! Additionally, I consider EZ my savant!

yeah mark i know you fantasize about being my father...... who wouldn't with all this natural talent and good looks; i'm a sure winner. =-)

Derrick,

I have a hard time generalizing about such things. Would I still balance pices? Some, probably, but not all. Like Teti said, you have to envision what the piece is going to do when you cut it, and then prepare for the opposite of that.

A central RP is the usual case. But creating a secondary point away from the center of the tree for the lower cuts can usually be done., That's when I balance those pieces and those are usually horizontal anyway. Higher cuts tend to grow upward.

Thanks Mark,
I knew there would be a comment about generalizing. The other guys at our company know a ton, but this isn't a practice that we do often. I still want to learn, cause you never know when you might need it. I see a big advantage as a production climber in not having to take the extra time to crank things up. Saving 30sec to a min on every pick adds up after a while.

Guess i'm just going to have to make a point of working around you some more so i can watch how you do things. Man what a bummer having to spend time with Mark C.

I took down a 100 ft. Red Oak today in Chestnut Hill Phila. It was leaning out . I tied every limb in the middle and they spun it all in the chipper . The crane showed up at noon , and we smashed the wood . Any questions ? New technique? seriously ,it's been around a long time .

Hey Riggs, get a helmetcam and post up some vids of your expertise in action good buddy.

I'm sure there must be things you can teach all of us, so what's the holdup bro?

I got a 100 footer to do tomorrow. Two massive leads broke out and I had to go and get the top one on the ground because it was still attached (sorta). I roped out a big hunk of wood there( balance with DWT and then two other ropes). Doing the rest of the removal tomorrow, but we will be using a crane for that. The stick is 5' diameter.

Will there be pictures Mark?

Riggs, i second the request to see your work. For different reason, i know your great and i wanna see how you go about your work! Even pictures will work.

today there are two dead 130' sweetgums with 45' limbs, one was a codom..... adios amigos..... 6 man ground crew and a crane for the bottom 67 foot of trunk. lots of balance point rigging. the co dom was 4.5' dbh the other was 4' dbh with f'n concrete in the stump cut (ruined my chain on the 66). finished in 9 hours. oh yeah burnt one rope up and a ground man cut a throw line that had got stuck earlier. now i have a date with a pretty lady. yes life is good
once again mark, pat, and dan, thanks for the new technique.

Yup Riggs,

I agree with Derrick, how 'bout it?

Yo Jo . There was a time when I spilled my soul . I got one hundred dollar checks for articles (wow), no money for rigging shows and met a lot of people(cool) . I did a rigging show once for Pen-Del Symposium and got some maple syrup (wow). People got upset it was advanced rigging(wanna see the tape?) and was gonna get people hurt . I was doing stupid Sh* back in the early ninety's , like split tail climbing , footlocking , using self made sailing winches, splicing my own slings (wow) . That stuff was too crazy , only a little more than a decade ago(crazy) . I told Don Blair his Hobbs was dangerous and needed a redirect(92) ( has one now) he said I was young and all this bs and he sue us if we marketed the sailing winch (wow)someones selling one now.. I remember the slide line being new(whoa) , I was shocked , I thought every one did it . I realize I had great teachers ( Bickers and Bartlett), the wheel is round . This balance point rigging that you don't understand tells me more about where you came from than anything you can ever say to me . Blame your teachers , don't blame me. I'll wear a helmet cam and show you my kids and family , maybe that will teach you something about me , five kids been married twenty one years( three great danes and two Parrots) . If it is something you don't understand it does not mean it is "new" just ask . I'm going on a ten day Elk hunt in Montana in late October , horseback maybe I'll wear a helmet cam there . I'm done with this thread . The only balance I really care about is my checkbook and savings. I'm glad there are alot of trees out there , I'm hurting.
