auto advancing friction knot while hip thrusting

not sure how to phrase this so be patient! :)

is it possible to safely incorporate a caribiner to advance my friction knot(using a taut line) by doing this...

clip the carabiner to my d-ring. then run the rope that is underneath the taut line through the carabiner.

this way when i pull up on the rope each time, the carabiner will advance the knot. know i would have to re set and re dress the knot mid climb, but if im imagining it correctly it would allow me to thrust up a few times before having to "hand advance" the knot.

hope this makes sense.

(this is what the micro pulley is for i think but am looking for an inexpensive way so long as safety is not compromised)

Attach a preswick on the rope that you pull on, with a micro pulley attached under your hitch. I have done it a little bit and does work. I have gotten used to working with an eye to eye, with a VT and a micro. And it gets old some times switching to a split tail, so I am really thinking that the Uni would be great!

I think you mean to say that you should put that prussic and pulley on the part of the rope that is tied to your saddle instead of the side you pull on. This way it stays stationary and allows it to tend the slack.

What do you mean by....."it gets old some times switching to a split tail"?

You might try this: Tengu Tip #2: Self-Advancing Blake's Hitch ... don't know if it will work for a Tautline but works great with a Blakes. AND, you don't need a pulley or a carabiner.

this is something i would try. like he says in his description, 'no new gear to buy'.

am going to give this a try in the 5 foot up area to see how it looks/feels then maybe advance a little higher.

but before i do, i prefer a taut line just because it is quicker for me to tie and i am in the habit of re checking it always to make sure it isnt creeping undone. will this work with either knot? or maybe taut line on one and blakes on the other?

thanks again everyone. and i will get the micro pulley eventually. but am trying to save money now :)

Hay Banjo, glad you read that and brought it to my attention that I explained it wrong. Hate knowing that I did that, but rather it be corrected.

Since I have been on here, I am sure that my reading comprehension has gotten allot better, but things still come out backwards and auckwards.

Thank's don't want to tell someone something wrong, will try to get an attachment on here tomorrow, of the way I like to do a split tail and a mend for it.

Oh and I like having my hitch at my hip, so when I do thrust into a tree and switch up for L-walking, don't mind but, after if need to go up, should have kept it. So what I meant was the UNI is adjustable so would be no frustration of choices, and that might just be me "frustrations" I am still learning!

How does that work?

Just pull the tail end of the rope the knot will advance itself up the rope just like a 2 blake knot. This has way less friction, and the locking or pulling prusik can be undone very easy by just uncliping it from the biner.
