ascender descender for RADS

Does anyone have any thoughts on what is the best ascender/descender for the RADS system? I'm thinking about the Petzl ID but it's proving to be a costly little item here in NZ (about 300 dollars). Is there a more cost effective model with similar performance, or another brand that can be recommended?
Thanks for any input,
Russell

Re: ascender descender for RADS ($$$ in NZ)

Good to see your interest in using the RADS system.

There are two other recently active threads that list out the mechanical options.

Is that maybe because of the NZ distributors or the currency exchange? Aug 8, 2008: 1.00 USD = 1.42602 NZD

The Edelrid Eddy has some good features.

The GriGri has been a standard item for RADS for years.

There is an Australian company that you should check out.

The gear that they have looks really nice. From what I've read about SRTE they have a good reputation.

I just got a Grigri from Mayer Tree Service down in MA and I'm starting to use that as my descending tool in my SRT setup.

I fell in love with my eddy after seeing the set up that tom had at TCIA Hartford. I'd still like a unicender but that will be a little further down the line.

I'm looking forward to converting more people at Expo in Milwaukee this year.
