are lighter tools beneficial to a long career?

What size bar? I doubt you will notice much difference in cutting speed with your hardwoods. You will notice more frequent filings that take half the time!
Jesse, I have used loads of skip chain. Just not on this saw. It is a 32" bar. Doubt I will notice abything but my buddy bought some reels of skip.

Maybe there's a correlation with injuries at the end of the day when you're tired. Muscles got tired at the same time as your tendons got a small dose of RSI. Bingo ligament injury. Or mental fatigue running the show bingo uncoordinated body - injury.

Some folks have work limits beyond which you stop because your body is telling you to. Can you say getting older? :)

edit - back a spell, new Dewalt 36v drills were the fad until workers complained they were too heavy fwiw

It's still 325 .63 I square file the chain though thinking about switching to 3/8 .50 just to have more chain selection but kinda wondering if it will noticeably effect performance.
I did that and it won't, runs a tad rougher. Recently changed back and very happy...as I return home from holidays I will be changing the bar to a tsumara....

I think the Tsumara is a bit lighter than a Sugi. I love my Sugi, Durable and light, It is performing well. I've been thinking of grabbing a second 261 and looking for a lighter bar. I'm sometimes waiting for the crane to swing back for the next pick, far longer than normal. Happens when the landing zone is confined....choked up. Sometimes I'm able to choke the saw lanyard to the tree, but I prefer to leave it saddled. Always looking to shed weight .....preventing fatigue while standing in spurs.

Let us know how ya like that Tsumara. I'm also going to check out Stihls LW version. They're supposed to be the lightest, but I heard they're not as durable.

I don't get 0.63 with .325.

Seems to me like 0.50 would be a better match for the strength and power.

I run 3/8" x 0.50 on all my rear- handles (261, 362, 460, 461,661) for better or worse.

0.63 seems like the bar would be thicker and heavier than 0.50.

@islandarb what do you like about it?

@96coal449 why stand when you can sit in a saddle?

I switched my 261 to 3/8 050 as well, that way I can use the same spool of chain that my other saws use instead of having to stock chain that only works on a single saw and often comes in only safety chain and semi-chisel. I run mine with an 18", and it has a higher performance filter and modified muffler, so slightly different than stock.

I thought so too. But after two years I recently revisited the .325/063....the chain runs smoother. Is it in my mind, who knows. But will remain with it for a bit.

If you switch it to anything I’d recommend switching to the newer .325 .050 Stihl RS Pro. It’s about the fastest round ground chain I’ve seen out of the box.

The only difference I notice is when making log cuts on crane jobs. The fullskip will power through a pinch, where the standard will stop.

Yes, we should avoid the pinch, and cut smart. That saw and chain combo made me lazy, though, since it didn’t care if it was pinched.

Habit..... so used to using side Ds for flip line. I actually prefer them for ascending with gaffs.
Waiting for the crane, I forget about the bridge paws. I don't really like using them for steel snaps on the wire core, though. I leave my climbing line around the spar and on my bridge, ready for the crane in seconds. I can technically sit, but it's my old assed hip injury that creeps up on me regardless. The longer I have to sit in one spot the sorer I get. Shedding weight helps. Normally, I'm not in one spot that long.

Yesterday, me and another climber were working some white pines a couple trees apart. One ground guy for the pair of us. We were working where the crane couldn't reach. I had my top ready, with a shallow face cut and tied off. While waiting, and waiting, my foot kept getting tingly. I kept shaking it to reestablish blood flow. Something was constricting my blood flow...... It was an awkward angle on a twisty top. Just that extra 5 mins of waiting.
