Arbpro Clip'N vs. HAAS 2.0

Oceans,
I have one criticism (really a compliment just don't want to sound all mushy and stuff)..........this needs to be posted in Climbers Talk not the overflow section just because it has a video.
This is GREAT stuff and everybody needs to see it, not just those that click the "New Post" and happen to catch it.
This is about tree climbing, technique, making life better and more fun!

I'm waiting to order mine! (Luke?), getting my speedy sticher out and going to town on my current boots and my Yates foot loop and changing my climbing style to integrate that boot strap! Bungee cords, here I come.

Tom, Mark?

Thanks for making me learn how to use a tool with the new software Richard.

I agree...this is where the thread belongs. When I read threads I rarely pay attention to which forum they live in.
Tom, magic wand trick. So a link exists in the Buzzflix which leads to Climber's Talk. Pretty cool!

Can I assume you guys are wearing the foot loops out in the Haas? I don't use mine everyday like you guys but I really don't have any issues with the current version. Help me understand the need for this version.

Sure, 'scenders are now more user friendly when wearing spikes, but the main purpose is really to integrate and streamline system components.
With this combination, there is no foot loop to work over your boots as the sole edge grabs the lop material, and the loop adjustment can be disregarded. It's an ultra-fast, repeatable, positive connection whether it's freezing cold, blowtorch hot, wet, tired, hangry... The HAAS is also more compact since the loop is gone.
In my opinion, when using gear like this in a daily production environment, advancements like this are often welcome.

Thanks Oceans, I have many versions of the tools I use in my trade so I get it now. As a rec guy sometimes I forget that these devices make my fun more enjoyable but they are the TOOLS of your trade and as such need to be refined to make them more productive.

Eric, as that you on bass? If so excellent sound, if not still an excellent cut.

Loving the new system/boots. I will likely be attempting to sew a strap onto my Asolo Drifters ;-) I would also like to see a refined Haas that didn't have such a bulky bit of cordage from the ascender down to the boot, more thought needed.

I almost bought those boots (first gen). I played it safe and got the hoffman drilines since that's what I'm used to. Maybe next time...

Incredible bass by Larry Grenadier, Brad Mehldau Trio.

I'm not sure how Michael could slim down the main backbone, but I'll say it's plenty pliable without much memory so it functions well year-round and stows real nicely. There's a fine balance to strike with this tool...flexible, yet still rigid enough to push up the ascender block.

Great Video! I am hoping to have the HAAS for the clip on steps in the market in the next week. I was really excited when Arbpro said they were actually going to do it. I have pair myself and I really like them.
it just makes for a cleaner system if that is the direction you want to go. personally we all need new boots eventually right?? why not get them with this feature.
Thanks for representing so well!

Ok, that makes sense. I've just handled one, haven't climbed it, I thought the bungee lifted the ascender but it sounds like there's more to it than that. Thanks Eric.

Much more to it. The length of bungee required is significant, and it has to be able to retract into the leg between the ascender and foot connextion (loop or biner). Without enough bungee, you won't get any stride.
Maybe Michael has something up his sleeve, but I honestly don't know how that could be much more compact and within a normal civilian's budget.
