Arborwear has a winner!

When I was in Detroit I picked up some new Arborwear to replace some worn out stuff. I like the new blue jeans and the lighter weight cotton pants, but the best pair I bought were the newer Tech Pants. Talk about comfy! I have some of the last version of the same and they are a different material. What a difference. I like them so much that I am calling in an order for three more pairs tomorrow.

Anyone else have these?

How can you beat workerbee-green Dickies?? They've got a little polyester so they're not freezing when wet, they're cheap to buy, last a long time, and they'll eat a gallon of bar oil before needing washing.

Mark,

I like the looks, haven't tried them on though.

Definitly on my wish list. /forum/images/graemlins/santa.gif

I got a pair at TCI as well. I've only worn them once so far, and that was just to the grocery store, but they do feel nice. They may just become my next lounge around the house pants.

I bought a pair of black and green in Detroit. Lite and comfy. The summer weight green and khaki are also very comfy. I thought those would be hard to beat, but Arborwear them lighter and comfier. Thanks Arborwear.

too bad they don't come in my size--you'd think since they cater to tree guys there would be more long and lean sizes. When I asked for 28" waist in my length, the best they could offer was to look thru the 30"ers to find some that were running small--not good enough at their prices.

I picked up a couple more pair of pants as well.

One of the reasons for going to the show, you get to try the stuff on.

I emailed the gal last year and said I was looking for a bastard

waist size of 35 and she checked a few pair and found them.

I thought it was good service.

I had the opportunity to be one of the field testers for the first two versions of the Tech Pants. I was sold the minute I put them on. They're really nice to wear in all weather.

Here's a field test. I couple of summers ago I was doing some climbing for an oak wilt research test. I had to be up in the tiny tips of the limbs to innoculate the trees with the oak wilt fungus. When I went home after the first day I was pretty wasted. The temps and humidity were in the nineties both days. I did the same thing both days, same breakfast, lunch and iced tea. To get to the test plot I had to hike through poison ivy. The tech pants went in the wash and I wore jeans the second day. On the way home from the second day I was REALLY wasted. It took a while to feel better. I realized that the only variable was that I had AW TP's instead of jeans. The TP's allowed my body to cool down better. That made me a real fan.

My brother is working as the campus tree trimmer at SMU in Dallas. He got TP's and says the same thing. Much cooler in hot weather.

They wear really well too. Combine performance and durability to bring down the cost to a good value.

I'm not sure if they've changed the fit, but they fit me better than the early generation ones did. They're not as tight in certain places (like ankle and calve) and the material is 100% more comfy. It's softer, yet doesn't seem to be any less sturdy. Nice feel for sure!

I thought I'd come out of the woodwork on this one and personally reply. It only turned Fall weather this week which means just a heavy sweat and not a soaking sweat after the first hour of work. Anything to sit down to lunch and be drier than the plumbers or irrigation guys having a bad day.

I have yet to find my pants a limiting factor in stretching into those positions of gymnastic proportions-- even with the leg scabbard.

Enough loops to hold a belt that carries cellphone, pruners, and keybiner. Pockets accessible with my Butterfly II. The front pockets can hold a pint of pecans each and I can still sit down and drive. The knee pocket is of little use because its on the scabbard side and I wouldn't trust it to hold a cellphone safely (maybe put it on a 4' retractible lanyard?)

They just released them in blue which breaks from the earth tones, but, being an institutional employee, conforms with the uniform scheme. Now I should get the budget for additional ones. Cotton breathes, polyester does what it does.

Good run down Jim /forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

If they work alright in your heat, I'm sure I'll enjoy them as well. I doubt that I'll have pecans filling mine, but good to know that they are capable.

I like your signature too.

Well, pecans, a pair of work gloves, whatever. With jeans I gotta do that dance to get the keys or change out. And the stuff stays in when inverted.

AW also has a sense of humor in their ads. I got the "why would anyone do business with people that say things like that" look from a couple of the guys in the shop when I was touting about getting these pants. Aah, but I'll not be so generous to share the rewards.

The siggie is from Robert Fripp of King Crimson fame.

When I'm not busy knotting, I'm looping.

Today the new company clothing policy got presented to the crews. One of the no-nos are cargo pants. When the supervisors had the meeting on Thursday I asked if my TPs would be OK since they have patch pockets on the legs. Fortunately they are, whew! The definition of cargo pants is that the pockets have sides to them instead of being sewn flat. I did get dogged by one of the salesman already :)

If you think the picture looks familiar, you should see what we can do to a phone call. All I have to do is work in a comfortable "y'all" and you'd swear you were talking to one person not two :)
