idiot pile - crashing all the branches out of the tree then crashing all the heavy timber on top of the branches

Safety meeting...not so super secret

BTW, I have a shark bite on my left shin right now. You know, the nice litte zig zag puncture wound?

And Mac, totally feel ya on the landscaper thing. I'm topping oleanders for a friend of the family tomorrow. She didn't understand why I wasn't bringing the truck and chipper.

I did that yesterday with a small Douglas fir. It made bringing the wood down really easy without rigging and without damaging the driveway. Sometimes the stupid way is actually the smartest way to do a job.

Yeah, idiot piles are ALWAYS easy on the climber. If you watch closely though, the groundies might be cussing you.

If I ever make one, I definitely start dragging brush the second I'm out of that tree.

This is one I picked up from my friend, Brian F.

Chicken Stick - also known as a pole saw, but used by a novice climber who is afraid to leave the center of the tree. "Hey rookie, drop the chicken stick and climb out on that limb!"

Brain bucket - hardhat.

Eyes and ears - PPE in the form of goggles and muffs.

Take a wrap (or 2) - increase the friction on the lowering line, this one is heavy.

Checking the chips - taking a leak in the back of the chip truck. "I'll be right back; I have to check the chips."

Let it ride - a polite request from the climber to the ground person to avoid sudden, jerky movements while lowering a heavy piece.

If a polesaw is a chicken stick when it's abused i.e. not leaving center of tree, then a chainsaw is an Elephant Gun when it's abused on small cuts that would be cleaner if done by hand.

Boat anchor--chainsaw being dragged around in top of crown for no good reason.
