Alive...again

6-week Heart Check

Went to the doc's today and had another echo picture set taken of my heart.

Doc compared it to the one taken right after my heart attack. Said the other doc's were generous in assessing how bad the immediate damage was.

Long and short my heart's efficiency is permanently down at least 25% or more and is barely on the "acceptable" side.

Acceptable enough to drop the coumadin in a month but...any more damage and the prognosis is dismal.

Good news is I can continue to be active and improve my fitness. Can even officially start climbing again and get back into the heavy work once off the coumadin.

Meantime, I'm dealing with the reality that just like that cat I rescued the other day, I've used up 8 of my 9 lives.

Gonna need to spend some time in my cave sorting my mind out and dealing with the facts.

ThanX for being part of my world-wide-network of good people!

Re: 6-week Heart Check

The Mrs and I had a brief sit down yesterday to review the results of the tests.

I think the most telling thing was the attitude of my Doc. Even he exhibited worry, despair and a sense of I've used up about all the luck I had left on this last one.

Because of the relative randomness of circumstances that lead up to my MIs there is truly nothing definitive we can do to prevent the next one.

And I have not much heart left alive to survive another one.

Plenty of heart to go on living without deficit, just nothing left to abuse further.

Needless to say, the reality of what is likely to happen next time is weighing heavy on my mind right now.

Am mostly hoping that I can somehow fulfill that purpose that has been set for me before the next one. Only problem is I haven't quite figured out that purpose yet!

Somehow, I know my purpose includes trees, people and outreach!

For those that choose to follow JC, I'd especially like to to hear from you via PM's, even if it is to identify yourself as a follower.

ThanX to all who have taken the time to offer prayers, good vibes and well-wishes.

Re: 6-week Heart Check

You have a lot of people out here wishing you the best outcome possible.

You have tons of opportunities to follow your purpose of trees, people, and outreach. I think that with growing environmental consciousness and action, there are more possibilities than ever before, and will be even more opportunities in the future.

From your posts during the time that I've been on TreeBuzz, I've always figured your input on any thread would be good input, whether from a business standpoint of finances, fairness to the people you deal with in your work like customers and employees, desire to do your tree care/ work well and safely, etc. These non-teachable qualities are what make a person adaptable to new opportunities.

While your heart issues are of course sad to hear, sometimes such a thing is what will make people you interact with, particularly your family and friends, more appreciative of what it most important in life, and move people to spend time with the important people in their lives.

Wishing the best for you and your family.

Sean
