ALB Positive Tree Climb - MA

Location
MA
Hi All,

I'm trying to organize an Asian Longhorned Beetle Recreational Tree Climb in Worcester, MA on Friday (Veteran's Day) November 11, 2011 from 10-3pm.

It's one thing to look at ALB damage during tradeshow booths, powerpoints, and literature. It's a completely different having the opportunity to climb and see damage up close. My goal to educate as many climbers as possible about what and how to look for ALB.

I'm still trying to work out the particulars, but is there a show of interest?

I will have to limit it to 15 people because we will be on private property.

Thanks!

Yes, I am very interested and know a few co-workers that might be as well. I would love to be able to climb trees and see the damage up-close. So yes, and How can I help??

Hey - got to meet 'Angry Arty' & Sean at NEC-ISA conference. Fun guys.

When I get the go from the powers that be, I will let you know, would love some help!

Thanks Jonathan!

I've known "Angry Artie" since i was fourteen years old, he is one of the nicest and funniest guys you will ever meet.

I would love to, but can't be there that day, any chance of doing another? And.........Hi Melissa!

Keep me in the loop. I should be able to do this one. We haven't seen The Destroyer here yet but I want to know what to look for.

Hey Jim,

If going to happen (should know early-ish next week) it'll be Friday, Veteran's Day, November 11th. 10-3pm in Worcester.

We'll meet up at our climber's ALB office (240 Barber Ave - opposite of the Rock Climbng gym).

Details coming...

Sounds like there's interest! Yeay!

Cheers,
M

WAY COOL EFFORT! Would love to participate--even from Atlanta.
TCI (Tree Climbers International) has begun to work on a whole new campaign -- Citizen Science (for) Trees. We will soon have a starter database on our website (treeclimbing.com) where anyone can enter data about what they're climbing and seeing in the treetops. If you don't already have a place to store where you're finding ALBs, etc. (and even if you do), would somebody please contact me. I sure would like to work together with all of you on this.
And/Or if you're interested in working with us on CitSciTrees, please let me know.

Re: ALB Positive Tree Climb is ON

Hi All,

The climb is on! The gathering is from 10-3pm. (Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early.) Would like to have a group meal afterwards at a local place (tbd).

Meeting place is 240 Barber Ave, in Worcester. (It's the driveway/parking lot opposite of the Rock Climbing Gym and down the street from Higgins Armory and before Sam's Club).

At 10am sharp, We'll have an introduction to ALB damage from an 'on the ground' perspective and then condense cars to maximize people shuttling.

So far I know of a definite 10 climbers outside of the Buzz.
I'd like to limit it to 20 people max.

Many thanks!
Melissa

Please add your name to this post if you are 100% in.

Re: ALB Positive Tree Climb is ON

Hi All,

The Rec Climb is on, the ALB part is off.

Please meet up this Friday at "White Hall Pond - Rutland State Park" http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/central/rtld.htm.

It's only 15 minutes from Worcester and a really gorgeous little park.

After the climb there's a local restaurant for beer/salad & beverage.

Hope to see you all there!

Best,
M
