Addressing hitch binding with the Rope Wrench on descent

Hello birdy......28"ers are the ticket with a wrench.....26 and 27 can fly depending on how fast you want to fly....less wraps and speed is fast forward gear...I run them all depending on whats on the rack....i have dozens in varying stages of use.....just like I have loads of ropes.....everyday is something different....keeps climbing fun....

Beside being a shorter setup, are there any other advantages to the shorty tether? Hitch length?

Just really compacts things. You can use a short prussic to create a shorter hitch. Honestly just a personal preference. I also run a wrench with standard 12" tether but use a VT instead of a michoacan. For your big conifer removals you won't notice any improvements over the standard tether. Do not waste your money Rico.

Thanks for the picture, Rob. Is the drawing below the correct way you tie it? If so it, looks like it is similar to the Michoacán, as the XT is to the VT.
The Michoacán, if turned 180 degrees, turns into a differently performing hitch, yours might do the same.

I have few others, that are similar, and will post them if you are interested in trying them out.

That is the way. Thanks, I would love to try some more and see how they perform. Next time I get to tie in I'll have to switch this one around and start there. I've seen some of your hitch drawings before. They are well done and easy to decipher. Keep on keeping on!

Here are some hitches that have a similar structure of the Michoacán. I haven't seen yours before, so you have to come up with a name for it! I hope you're able to come up with something more imaginative then the ones I use for mine.

Top left is yours, next is Michoacán variation b, Howard var. b, Gripping Sailors, this next one was introduced by @Tr33Climb3r , Michoacán var. c, this next one I found on goggle images as the Scaffold and is the Michoacán turned 180 degrees and also called the Petroacan, the last is the Howard-Knut var. b.
You can see how inventive I am with the names, the hitches with a small star on the bottom right, are the ones I came up with.

I gave the Rope Wrench a go today on 3 Redwood removals in the 160 ft- 175 ft range. Buttery smooth on both ascent and decent, super efficient, and an absolute pleasure to use. Ran the Wrench with a hitch climber pulley, short stiffy tether, 10 mm epi, and a Michoacán. My first job with the Wrench, and I loved it.

Man, I would love to do treework in redwood country. We get tall doug firs up here but I absolutely love Sequoia sempervirens, they're rare where I am but I've been lucky to work on a few 'decent' examples. Your set up sounds slick.

So, @rico; you wrecked three 160 foot to 175 foot tall Redwoods? What did you do with all of the time you had left after lunch?

I have been dailing in my super cool, shiny new Haas and Powersender setup, and all I got to say is Holy Shit! I always thought you Rope & Wrench Walking, SRT Slinging Arborists were a bunch of soft sissy’s, but now it’s been oficially confirmed. This ain’t work.
Seriously though, this is a game changer for me, and will allow me to stay productive for a very long time. I want to give a shout out to all the very knowledgeable people here for all their help and advice. This place has been an amazing resource for an aging, older climber like myself. Thanks.
