Finding a hidden goliath like the one in the picture is almost as fun as actually climbing it (almost). In the rock world most of the big mountains and walls have been climbed (many times!) but tree climbing is a totally different story. I love knowing that when I bushwhack deep into a forest and find a big old tree I will probably be the first and only person to ever climb it.

This video was supposed to be my wife's debut into the tree camping world but alas, she had to cancel last minute. Either way it was still an intriguing adventure! Check it out:

MORE PEOPLE NEED TO DO THIS!

I just looked at the price to buy one of those Fluffy. No wonder you build your own. Nice work once again.
You speak the truth! I have wanted a double portaledge for the past 4 years and I decided this year that I had waited long enough! However I still couldn't convince myself (or my wife) to drop the coin on one so, yes, that is the reason why I spent the last 2 months building one. :frenetico:...it was WORTH ALL OF THE HEADACHES!

There aren't a lot of people who can relate to the fun that you had up there! I can :coffe:

Which fun part are you relating to Tom? The climbing in MN part or the treecamping part? Or both??

Thanks for another vid, always entertaining. You know I'm going to expect a rope walker vid. :D

Heck ya! I already have the trip planned, haha.

Both!

While you were making the double did you make up plans? It looks great! I'd like to make one someday. I have a single with a fly and a screen tent.

Out of curiosity what brand is your single? And did you make the mosquito net or where did you buy it?

Why havent we gone on a tree climbing adventure together!? My experience in climbing with real arborists is quite minimal so I imagine a tree climbing trip with you would be enlightening! I have so many questions which can only be answered by climbing with a pro. If you are looking for company on your next rec climb give me a shout.

The following link is a page of pictures that shows the progression of the project from beginning to end:

The bottom of this page lists all of the important information like frame materials and sources (with a list of specific frame sizes):

I started writing a tutorial but this project was so time consuming and required so many detailed measurements that I am assuming anyone with the abilities to build a similar portaledge will be perfectly capable of looking at the pictures on TREEfool.com and finding their own unique measurements.
