A trip in the Way-Back Machine

Instead of watching TV tonight I was browsing through my bookmarks. In the woodworking file I found a dead link. With a little Google time I found this site:

http://web.archive.org/collections/web.html

Hmmm, I wonder if any of the glory days of the ISA forum are still around? It would be too much to hope that the "Forces on a speedline" thread were in some pile of files on the Internet. It probably is somewhere but we need a detective to find that thread. Who remembers that thread?

I did find this archive:

http://web.archive.org/web/20010501182225/www.isa-arbor.com/archives/isa/treeclimbers/1998/

As I scrolled down the archive I noticed many names that I recognized. Some screen names are the same. I've had the good fortune to meet many of those people over the year. I sure don't miss "arborist@concentric". I do miss Bob Wulkowicz though.

How many people do you recognize?

i kinda only have so much time fer 'hobby sight'; but end up writing to answer some question mostly, so kinda piece around, but concentrically towards target. i was gonna get more calculators up and running based on Dave's spreadsheet starts here before i said anything. i'd think that this Bent Line Calculator would be a start at calculating forces on a speedline.

Cool link Tom, thanx. i'm not quite old enough to remember the thread you refer to of course; but i'd think you'd have that Forces on a SpeedLine thread you seek right there with you from some care pack-age or something.

Ken, if you've got the attachment images somewhere, zip them up, along with the original version of the thread, and send them to me. I'll fix everything up and will send you a package you can directly upload to the server so everything will function properly.

It appears as though this is all the web archive has. By the way, you must enable javascript for the archived pages to "work".

Thanx Glen; but before the whole thing eventually crashed (ISA started wobbling so i started copying threads; this was in earlier days and anything could happen); i didn't have the chance to go thru and chase down all the pix etc. So, i have a few pix, but none mentioned. i have lots of ohter threads; but of course Tom called out one of the most memorable. All but 1 picture by Isaac(what happened to him); is by Dave Spencer, he might have them in some dusty archive drive!

Dang, i remember the Sussex name Dan!

i did find this pic of an extendable bridge from ISA discussions.

It's a small, small world Ken.

Sussex Tree was Jeff Meredith and myself. I sold my half of Sussex Tree and my 70 acre farm to him in 2001 and moved from Delaware to Georgia. I sure don't miss having 7 employees and a business partner.

Tom,

I miss those day when the ISA board worked. I gained tons of insight from there. I miss the days of lots of good info with little BS and ego. I do remember your buddie /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif concentric.

Ken,

That CD you sent me is buried in a box deep inside the shipping container with a lot of other goodies. Today I looked at a promising house that I might make an offer on. If that happens I'll be able to get out my books, pictures and info.

Isaac is going to school in Rapid City. The last time we talked he was on his way to a chemical engineering degree. A bright man. It was so funny to read the threads that he would be involved with and be the only one to know that Isaac, at the time, was about 14-15 years old :) He held his own for the most part.

Well well, what have we here?

Having had some time on my hands I stopped at the ISA site about an hour ago to see how things were progressing in the Arboricultural Community. Of course having the chance to reply to *any* thread, let alone a dorment one of just over a year, gave me the bug once again so I was left with no choice but to see what Treebuzzing I've missed over the last...while. (No way has it been several years; I simply wont accept that I'm that old.)

And all this no find that y'all are talking about me!

Too bad I don't seem to have any of my notes or diagrams from the speedline discussions. On the other hand I have, refined, my physics skills over the last couple years....

It is good to see as many names I recognize still alive and typing!

Isaac

Hi, Isaac;

It's good to hear from you. Notice I did quote the physics statement. ;)

Can you check the post about simple dynamics in the dwt thread 12-22-03? 2nd opinions are always welcome. There's no pressure for a reply.
