A neat backup RADS with a friction hitch- VIDEO!!

Although this is in the rec climbing section, it's probably a good thing to know. Tom had reference this in another thread and I thought it was a good idea and so I went out and set it up.

Joe is a friend that first brought this up and indicated it was too hard to do, but I found it to be pretty easy, and it is certainly a good technique to know.

You might want to notice the interesting DdRT descent too.

If you installed a throw line in the canopy above the TIP, and then attached one end to the handled ascender, you could pull the ascender to the top and then pull until it two blocked with the friction hitch. Once this happens ,you can pull the ascender up again and have another go.

Hey PA,
I looked at that - pretty good idea.

Although if you pulled the ascender up and something came up and you couldn't climb, you couldn't get the ascender down or the rope. You'd have to go up and get it. At least that's the way I'm seeing at first glance.

Now if the upper ascender was a Shunt with a tether (throwline or something like that), you could pull it down with the tether.
