3D printed throw weights

How long do they last you? Do you use them daily?
I've had mine for years. I used them daily for many years although I'm out of daily production work now. After rupturing one via bombing it out onto a deck (I think) I generally just untie the line and take the bag off. All my bags aren't Rockets, but my favorite ones are.

What i would certainly like to achieve is the same level of quality and loyalty you guys have to these throw weights in my design. Feel free to tell me what you like and/or want in a throw weight. I just like the challenge of trying to design and make something good but at a lesser cost.

The Design I’m currently working will act like a blow hammer and absorb energy on impact deadening the blow and minimizing ricochet. But unfortunately my printer decided to go on the fritz today. I’ve got a call into technical support waiting for an answer. Hopefully I’ll get back up to printing prototypes soon.

Dead blow has potential in my opinion, I blasted my bag off the same limb a pile of times trying to achieve my desired tie in the one day, I was frustratingly accurate at it hitting and bouncing. A dead blow may have let it drop right into where I wanted, instead it bounced past.

we solved most all the problems you are encountering plus some.
Cost is the exception.
Bags are not practical for my operations.
Thanks for trying for improvement or perfection. Good to know like minded out there in the world.
Plastics or composite s did not make the longevity standard for us. Mb you will find the right mix.

Thanks I’m certainly going to try. Problem is I use plastic as my primary material. The Plastic that I use that provides the least friction also has the lowest ductability (flexibility). Whereas high ductability polymers impart more friction. I’m looking for the best way to combine the best features of both. I’m currently finding the low friction of my ABS to be very nice in the tree. Doesn’t often get stuck to twisted around branches. But to get the dead blow effect I need do use a high ductability component.

Happens to me all the time it like my disc golf putting, almost great but 2 inches low.

With the Big Shot, I aim with the pole, get what I think should be the proper trajectory, then raise it a few degrees.

The trigger holds the cradle out from the pole far enough so the tubing looks parallel to the pole. At first I thought the launch angle might be slightly off due to the tubing not being stretched parallel to the pole. I guess my perception of how much drop will occur is slightly off.

I'm pretty good with the big shot, most of the time we don't use it until we're trying to get pretty high up like 60 ft or if it's a really hard angle to hit throwing it.

Yea I saw that it's pretty sweet, I'd still be hand throwing my lower stuff though, would be cool to have van apta for big trees though but most of the time my big shot is more than adequate.
It was a fun project and fun to make but your right you can’t beat the quick work a simple throw weight makes for simple shots.

I made an air powered one too. I has probably been 10 years since I've used it in a tree. Big Shot gets very regular use. I do try to keep improving hand throwing skills so unless it is 40-50' + or through some branches, I'll hand throw (sometimes give up after 15 minutes of frustration and get the Big Shot!).

Regardless of shooting or throwing, looking forward to seeing if a better weight comes out of this! Charles Goodyear didn't invent the wheel...but without his innovations where would we be today? (sure, somebody else would have figured it out....but what if they didn't...)
