3D printed throw weights

The needle shoots straight and true doesn’t seem to hang up or wrap around branches.
The large weight is very heavy I don’t have a scale so I can’t be sure but it’s over 16 ounces. The big one landed hard on a rock and didn’t break or crack which surprised me I was expecting BBs everywhere. Made from ABS plastic. The same stuff legos are made of tough but not as much deductibility as i think it should have. Nylon or carbon fibre may be better. I may coat the needle in West System epoxy. It’ll be bulletproof then.
I don’t know what option there are, but hdpe is a great material.

Just had a look around and lead shot is stupid expensive. Each of these weights would triple in price for that part of the item over the less dense steel shot (BBs). I suppose I could make available the empty plastic vessel if you wanted to DIY the end result. I’ll see what I fish up in my my tacklebox for lead split shot. When I get the scale I can do a comparison for Weight/volume.
Personally I only seek out non lead shot. There is a void at the moment. Wesspur changed their bags from lead to steel, and now back to lead.
The difference didn’t change in functionality nor did the size of bag.
All bags eventually break, and then you spread well over half a pound of lead everywhere.

Maybe depleted uranium would be a better option. Lol. I think I’ll stick with steel for now.

I could also use a length of solid steel cylinder. It will take care of the voids that would be created by using bbs. I don’t know in what $ range your suggestion would fall or its available form factors and availability in general considering today’s supply chain shortages.

Just spit balling here but I could encapsulate lead shot in West System epoxy. If the unit broke the internal weight package would be a solid unit and bonded to the plastic cover. The epoxy would also maintain unit integrity.

I actually like the steel filled throw bags better, it filled out the bag more and they seemed less inclined to getting stuck.

I've borrowed a plenty for my personal use. Selling is the other territory. I learned how to anodise just so my rope wrench could be red like the real one :) Has one upgrade feature not on the real one to do with the slic pin.

I've never had one rupture without warning.
