22 year old died in Florida yesterday.

Yep. We can certainly have this discussion without posting the vid, which in my opinion shows an utter lack of respect for the victim and his family.

As someone who has seen people die in the woods I can tell you it is an extremely private, intimate, and solemn moment for the victim and those unfortunate enough to witness the event. Posting a moment like this on the interweb is wrong. Plain and simple.

Too many people who are in the 'show it here' camp are missing a big point. Allof the videos are hosted somewhere else. Just not here. If anyone wants to watch the vids do the smallest amount of your own homework and find the source.

Also, Awakenings is a place of respect for the injured and dead tree workers.

Make comments that have less bark but maybe more bite.

If you feel driven to go personal take it out of Awakenings. Start a new thread for public comment. Maybe sleep on your comment and start a Conversation/DM with someone you don't see eye to eye with.
Or how about just condemning the treatment of each other in this manner all together. I don't remember people telling each other FU and various other easily found comments in the past? We can shut down threads and erase them from the site for other reasons but when people speak to each other in this manner we just need to take it to another thread? IDK if this solves the problem. What set this site apart was how people dealt with each other. Maybe I was nieve but I don't remember it ever being like this.

We would tell each other to fuck off in much more respectful ways with the old emojis. I remember some characters here that would.
Mostly resorting to :fuckyou: but the vile tailored personal attacks were way less frequent.

To be clear, I don't disagree with this. To bring it back to OPs start, what about regulating that aspect of this as well? I would like it to be a clear rule that the video itself is to remain private, or that it's up to the immediate next of kin to decide.

I think you need

In the spirit of keeping it real ya might want to go back and read post #70. The point of stubs was specifically mentioned, and I even use profanity to get my point across.

“Don‘t leave fucking stubs, no matter how good of an idea you think it is.”

To keep it really real.

The video shows that it wasn't a stub.

Funny, but I don't recall claiming it was a stub that killed this young man..I was simply responding to your false claim that I missed "the importance of clearing stubs". Maybe you should work on your reading comprehension skills before you run your mouth next time? So much for really real.

Maybe it would be a better discussion without people suggesting maybe what other people should do.

(see what I did there?)

It's it evidently to mature for this audience.

It's not good enough that someone have the will power to not watch a video they don't want to see.

They've got to piss and moan until no one can see it.

Then they make broad guesses as to what happened and have to get all pissy.

Your words in post #8-

The limb had been cut back to a foot or so that caught his neck. He may have been using it to push on.

You do realize that when you remove a limb but leave a foot or so, it is called a stub? In this story you are claiming he my have lost the top over backwards., and the stub caught his neck, resulting in his death...

You words in post #106

"The video shows that it wasn't a stub."

You do realize that your 2 versions of the event directly contradict each other?

A second video was posted showing more video and it showed that my guess was wrong, and that limb was not cut back. The second video also showed a powerful gust of wind that the first video didn't show.

That limb that caught the climber was whole and above the top felling cut.

Something that you didn't mention as being a hazard in your list of hazards.

I believe you were the first person who watched the vid to tell the rest of us what had happened. Your story was that the man had left a stub, and it was that stub that had killed him, when he lost the top over backwards.

Now you are here telling us that the info you passed along to all of us was faulty, and that your original “broad guess” was wrong.

Fucking unbelievable.

Here are my exact words from my first post in this thread: "It looks to me like the top came down and a crotch on the top caught his neck and hung there leaving the climber inverted hanging by his climbing gear."

There there was a second video posted that showed the whole limb above the felling cut before it went over backwards, most likely from a large gust of wind.

My above statement was from before the second more revealing video was shown. I was wrong, it wasn't a stub. It was a whole limb.

I know that we both are very saddened by what has happened.

We have no good reason to fight.

Oh I am very sad for the loss of this young man’s life.. I am also disgusted that this vids was posted for public viewing.
