Not really impressive pics from a climbers stand point but this was the bridge I built over the Big Thompson river after the epic floods. I dropped two skinned up spruce trees across the river, snugged the logs up with a come along and then salvaged decking boards from the mess that was once Glen Haven Colorado. The next day we were able to get horses and 4 wheelers across to help in the Search and Rescue effort.

I couldnt find any pics of our tyrolean traverses. The dude standing next to me is Vern Miller. He is one of the head alpine rescue guys in Rocky Mountain National Park and a local paramedic. We worked pretty well together and he is now a huge fan of using arborist techniques in search and rescue. When I showed him a simple z-rig using pulleys and simple friction hitches it blew his mind.

Nice shot of the National Champion Eastern Hemlock, 68" DBH, 167' tall. We applied an aerial treatment (pump sprayer) of the upper canopy with Safari.

Rocky Mountain Rescue has been using Z-rigs with pulleys and friction hitches for more than half a century.

color me (very) skeptical
Rocky Mountain Rescue is the oldest and most experienced alpine rescue organization in the US. The 3:1 Z-rig is the most-used mechanical advantage system among alpinists and vertical cavers which is the source of most vertical rope rigging technique. The only technique which was unique to tree climbers is DdRT.
