2014 Picture of the Year

My "ignorance" is based on the "I don't really give a shit premise" re mountain rescue. But my doubts are on the mechanical hitch being used over a half a century ago. Any proof of that son?

Clearly, you don't give a shit. But the discussion was about a Z-rig with friction hitch. I don't have a clue what you mean by "mechanical hitch" and I'm sure you don't either.

And, as I'm about to turn 63, if I'm a "son" to you, you must have reached puberty at age 2, which would explain your senility now.

This job also last spring. Sheer ravine driveway downhill, chose not to bring my crano too steep, hired my buddy with this great ole vintage sweet 22 tonner. Me up on the hook, set couple chokes, shave it. Rest is history. Roof odd solid metal unit...very expensive. Got it picked before structure began to fracture under roof...minimal repairs. Been there done that 2 times on this middle of woods house.

Huge pinoak 15 feet beyond primaries. Nice payday. Electric Co. closed their eyes I guess as they passed this job and eyeballed it periodically. I know most of em for decades anyway. Elbow of 75' bucket sometimes 4 to 5' away from primaries. Had to climb out for top maybe 40' above 75' reach. About to remove the one next to it (not small ash, took that out last summer) in the next month sometime. Dia. tape.

Not as dramatic as NWest Coast 200 footers but plenty 100' plus around here. State champs being 163' Tulip, 152' White oak, 156' White pine, 142' Pecan, etc. This typical mature Sycamore was well over a hundred as I had to butt hang it on a 3/4" lanyard and then hook it up by the butt to the crane as 100' reach no jib, not enough reach to tip tie, and we were boomed all way out without jib.

Not trying to stir things up (or maybe I am) ...but the mass (weight) on a thick multi leadered Platanus (Syc) at 120' just HAS to be significantly more than an excurrent single stem 170' to 200' conifer with associated rigging much more demanding and complex as well? I will sign off and relinquish for a while :birras:

Please don't be offended...but I just do not understand that quote. "....you strengthen within yourself" and it makes you a better person after perceiving undesirable qualities in others (that you see in yourself)?
None taken. See in your fellow brother, what you wish to experience yourself.
