He ain't goin to jail, nor should he. He did what the HO and architect wanted, and the city supposedly approved.

I hate the subjectivity in cases like this. They'll fight over whether the trees were "grand" (what the hell does that even mean? They don't look over 35 or 40 feet to me), and then over whether his cuts constitute "abuse", even though the trees are expected to live.

I get it. It would be nice if everyone got along and agreed beforehand to prune to our standards of technical and aesthetic beauty. But we don't live in an ideal world, and this neighbor apparently couldn't be reached.

One of the commenters on the article said it well: "This should not have been done, but that does not mean the property owner did not have the right to do it. We can not legislate consideration and good taste."

A true professional would educate them on what needs to be done in the best interest of the tree as well as the people . if not you can always walk away knowing your not associated with mutilating trees. Probably with your head held high since you have other work and you dont need to be told how yo do your job cause your a treecare professional and all...:aburrido:right ?

Right. And like I said, I get it. I'm just not willing to jump on the "Toss his ass in jail" bandwagon. Especially if, as he claims, he had the go ahead from the city, the architect and the owner.

Again, it's the subjectivity that bugs me. City will have an expert to say the trees are mutilated. Badeaux will (potentially) have an equally qualified expert to say the trees will be fine. And a non-arboriculturally incined jury of ordinary folks will decide. (If it even gets that far).

In 5 years those trees wont be noteworthy to passers by except for their ordinariness, everyone on that street except the two interested parties will have forgotten about it, but this forum probably won't. Something's amiss.

Bucknut, have you read anything else this dude has said? Did you read the BS on his website about being "literally born in a tree", and how he's the most sought after climber in the country, his Mom was the 1st female tree climber, and he's "done thousands of crane picks?" Yet nobody has heard of him. And all the BS has been removed since being called out on it. Have you seen his only 2 crane videos where he obviously had no crane experience, was flipping the picks over, shock loading the crane, and riding the crane ball hanging upside down. Have you seen the trees he has massacred in person? They're horrible. And he doesn't apologize for it. He says that they're "espalied" and he'll probably butcher some more trees. I don't feel like we're throwing him under the bus. We gave him a chance.

Here, just in case you missed it:

"Marshall Badeaux
Creator & Founder

From the very start Marshall set out to make Charleston's very best tree service. His legacy has been well built on aesthetic trimming and removing some of the largest most dangerous trees Mother Nature ever grew from all over this great country. By the time Marshall established Charleston Tree Experts, LLC in his late twenty's he had already surpassed virtually every tree climber ever to come before him. Marshall has completed thousands and thousands of crane picks of hazardous trees which is almost unheard of for any tree climber. As a younger man Marshall spent four years in Colorado where he fine-tuned his skills as a proficient tree removal artisan; having removed tens of thousands of dead trees from over house and structure, most of which the dreaded and notorious Cottonwood. Before establishing Charleston Tree Experts, LLC, Marshall had spent his entire tree climbing career as one of the most sought after tree climbers from all across the land having established himself as a living legend in the industry.
Marshall's roots can be found in the countryside of the North Carolina piedmont where he was literally born and raised in a tree house and in the tree industry from birth by the first and foremast female professional tree climber in recorded history . Similarities can be drawn between the childhood of both Marshall Badeaux and Tarzan from the Jungle Book. We should note the animals that inhabited the wilderness Marshall grew up in were not quite as exotic as in the jungle book. From an early age Marshall learned the craft of the industry observing the operations of his mother's company. By the age the average country boy learns to split wood with an axe, Marshall was well on his way to becoming a high ranking tree climber. In his early twenty's Marshall decided to blaze his own path and set out for Colorado. There he fine-tuned his skills as tree removal specialist with four hard cove years of dead Cottonwood removal throughout the Denver metros area. In 2010 wife Amy, daughter Anastasia, and Marshall moved to the Lowcountry and fell in love with its natural beauty at first sight. Marshall immediately made an impression on the local tree industry as being "The Top Notch Climber''. It didn't take long before Marshall established this fine company with a strong foundation built on hard work, determination, guts, and an overall desire for both his men and himself to always do their very best in providing excellent tree care."

I hear ya. Yeah, I saw the vids and website. Stupid, crazy stuff. Indefensible. No argument there.

I'm also not saying he did good work on those trees. And maybe he'll pay for it. I'm cool with that. Again, I guess the murkiness is what bugs me. If he cut those trees to nodes, but they looked exactly the same, is he free and clear? If he cut them 6 inches further to the left and a few leaves remained, is that better? Are utilities totally exempted from this, cuz that looks like the work they do all day every day. Dunno. Gotta hire competing experts to argue about it, then folks who know nothing about trees will "decide". Frustrating.
