10mm ocean polyester on poison ivy

hey guys, i just got my op split tail in and its a 10mm, before i had problems useing a 10mm beeline on my 11mm rope because the diameter was too big, but now that i got my poison ivy (which is 11.7mm) i was wondering if i would be able to use the 10mm op split tail without it creeping like i had experienced with my other 10mm beeline and 11mm fly line

I had the same problem. With my 8mm beeline on 11mm Fly. The distel would slip, and not catch on the acsent with alot of slack in the line, from body thrusting. I'm getting a 10mm one eye split tail for my B-day on the 19th and am going to use the Blake hitch with that for awhile. Try the VT or the other new one. Can't remember the name, starts with an M. Hope it helps

hey rangerdanger, i definatly dont think that a 10mm beeline is going to fix your problem, i say that because i had the same problem but using a 10mm beeline on a 11mm rope, if your 8mm isnt working, i suggest adding a helix to the mix on your vt knot, it worked great for me, i do 4 wraps then have two helix like twist in the line, its long and out of my way and locks up no problems

mark b, do you suggest taking extra raps on my vt then? the cord i got is 34 inch with grizzly splice, either way, im going rec climbing tomorrow, i guess ill figure it out then, if it doesnt work, do they sell 8mm op splits?

Yeah, but from what I've been told the 10mm one will work, since I'm using the Blake's Hitch and not another one. I'll have to try the helix thing tommorrow too, as it's getting a little late to climb here. Thanks

It's really all down to the hitch you're using and the length of the hitch cord.

Also, whether you climb on natural crotches, rings, or pulleys.

i climb on pulleys a lot, i love the smoothness of it all, i compaired my op line to my used beeline 8mm and they are really close in size, im guessing because one is brand new and the other not so much, ill go with the extra rap and see what happens ill let ya know the results rangerdanger, and im going to check out the michoacan knot, never hurts to know what your turning down

I use 8mm NE HRC on my Sterling 10mm climb line with no real complaints. I used to use an 8mm line from Sterling on my french prussik (and probably still would if it wasn't discontinued) that worked dreamy but had no durability. I think if the HRC were just a little smaller I'd be happier.

Try to get your hands on some ARC, it is smaller than HRC.

Mark, what is ARC? Why do you suggest that instead of the HRC?

so the op line didnt work on my poison ivy, not even a bite, but for some reason worked on my small in diameter fly, im guessing its because my poison ivy is still pretty new and the prusik is stiff, real stiff, to a point that i beat it against a tree to help break it in. i only tried it with a vt knot though, others may have better luck with other knots
