We've all seen impeachable offenses, but we really should consider that his latest maneuver is a genuinely treasonous offense. How so? Well, we don't have kings or ruler elites in our society, we have the ballot box, we have 'the people'. Free and fair elections are sacrosanct: they define our...
Managing the trees of clients is quite often more about the humans than the trees. This could not be truer than when the humans are themselves close to death. Two scenarios.
In the first, client who is dying of stage 4 cancer insists upon leaving off the work order the removal of a dead tree...
With this particular complaint--"he didn't show up to the estimate"--it's especially bad when you don't recall ever setting up the appointment with them. If you choose to reply to the review, be simple and apologetic: "sorry we had our schedules conflicted. Please call to help us make it right...
My wc insurance allows 2 unanticipated bonuses throughout the year. The key there is "unanticipated", meaning you don't know exactly what it will be. We hope to be able to provide a summer and xmas bonus--and so far things have worked out nicely. Look at your bottom line. Consider the...
Does anyone know where the 'Gonna call the Better Business Bureau' meme got started? From time to time you'll see an older person berating the waitstaff at a restaurant with, " I will call the Better Business Bureau on you!!!" Totally naive, I used to think it was like a government...
LOL. The Roman satirist Juvenal called such these kind of efforts to appease the horde 'bread and circuses'. But the bread and circuses of appeasement won't make Trump a great leader--just another gangster trying to buy off a constituency. A broken clock is right twice a day and yet we don't go...
Looks like business owners are entitled to a new tax benefit, Section 199a. Passed Congress last year. Just now learning of this and thought I'd pass it along. 20%.

Its looking bad for Trump and his supporters these days. They are holding out for the prospect of a "wall"--a beautiful steel slat fence, as it were. Anybody think of how to breach this particular thing? I think with a throwline, a saddle and some rope, maybe a pantin and a rope wrench, a guy...
Jeff, your question pertains to attitudes towards tree work in small business vs. large business and why overtime is not sought by employees in your larger business. I'm going to offer an explanation, but don't really know if it is true. Smaller tree services survive more on the shoulder seasons...
Its nowadays a Dodge Ram 3500 5.9. Nice. Not exactly a daily contract climber rig, more of a boss rig, but I thought I'd post all the same (that's how I was reading the thread title 'post-contractclimber; rigs here). There are elements to this design that I thought I'd share for others to...
Designed for my bed this and had a friend build out of 6061 aluminum stock plus perforated stainless steel sheet throughout top, bottom, and doors, topped it with marine grade plywood. It keeps wet gear air drying. Fits jetsled with room to spare for rope bags and harness. A tight solution.
Love the player, love the game. ;0 Turns out we got the job and it is on day rate. An old guy I used to work for always said 'you can't lose on time and materials'. You may not win big either, though, but forestalling a loss (right now in PDX) is more than a pyrrhic victory.
I had arrived a little late to the last quote of the day. He was a retired fellow, amicable, with a new Prius in the driveway. We looked at about 20 shrubs and trees to which he had fastened bits of orange tape on the limbs and branches that he wanted to get a quote on removing. No full pruning...
I thought he was wearing Wesco Highliners at first. Check out his foot gear: ninja-type boots with cloven toes and attached cleats. True Magic Boots. Amazing to see something like this. I'm not sure they're set to gain a toehold in the American market, so to speak. Who knows!
Electric fence! Ha! I remember in NYC the high end apartments would have miniature wrought iron fences around their trees. Though that might work for dogs, I can't imagine the liability when Mr. Highdollar tenant impales himself when he trips over it after a night on the town. PDX transportation...
