Yup, a little blue loctite is what I use also. It would have been more complex and no doubt costly, but spring lock ball stops sure would have been nice under those arms.
A choking carabiner is way reliable if you can guarantee the orientation and load direction is proper and will not change during use. I use them frequently for short line work. Never for remote or out of sight sets.

I've been using a green laser on my apta for years and have never found shooting above a union to be a problem. There is almost always something close enough that allows for doing a few sweeping passes. This allows timing the shot to be released into the void. Works well.
