    3D printed throw weights

When a design costs close to or more to make then what you could sell it for the whole thing becomes obviously untenable to produce. I’m sure there’s a magic formula for what that number is I just don’t know what it is myself. I’m financing my prints and parts myself but it’s not a bottomless...

    3D printed throw weights

What about if the throw line threaded through the centre of the weight to be tied to the bottom. That would leave no knots at the smooth nose cone section of the throw weight. Next is trying to incorporate a breakaway function for the throw line using that design element.

I’m loving the drawings guys thanks. You all draw better than me. Thank the gods for my 3-D modelling software Blender. Lol In your drawing were you have the air void i used springy polyester fill. Foam rubber would’ve worked too, I just didn’t have any so I tore apart one of my kids old...

Keep thinking Dan we’ll figure it out someday.

That’s a damn good idea about the buckles. No sense reinventing the wheel.

    3D printed throw weights

You’re not kidding it would. I can see many hours with my 3-D modelling software trying to come up with a viable design.

    3D printed throw weights

Hey thanks for your insight. You are right I am not an arborist. I’m a rec climber. I do remember those rubber springy things. I have tried making the base which is flexible with thicker material However the rebound effect is very pronounced as it is in those items that you mentioned that are...

That’s interesting i was about to make a sheath for cloth throw bags but someone beat me to it. C’est la vie ( such is life)

    3D printed throw weights

If we/I can ever get it figured out so it works then it’s a deal. I’m going to be looking for people to test this anyway.

How much of a cut do you want? Lol

    3D printed throw weights

No matter what it’ll be a design challenge. Choosing the correct polymer is just the start but i do think you idea has merit.

    3D printed throw weights

I got ya. I know exactly what you’re talking about. Unfortunately not every idea is printable. The idea is sound yet tweeting it so it can be printed is the trick.

What about splitting the pin so it flares out. You would need to squeeze it together to push it into the receiving end? Might be worth a try and possible with my printer.

    3D printed throw weights

I’m heading out soon it’s Canada‘s here. I’ll give your plan a good looking out when I’ve got the time. Just off the cuff I was thinking about a tube that the string goes through where all the internal hairs (for lack of a better word) were oriented toward the base. Think of a roll of Astroturf...

    3D printed throw weights

Problem is there’s a lot of Centrifugal weight on the weight when throwing it. The breakaway would have to be outside that spec, which I think is significant. Once again I’d have to think about it. Unfortunately not all problems can be solved, at least not by me. :)

    3D printed throw weights

Thank you Dan. If I’m correct what you’re looking for is some sort of break away from the main weight and the line. That right? Give me some time to think about it.

    3D printed throw weights

Hi Dan. Thank you for your input. I agree this thread has strayed at times. It may just seem like a Journal of my progress but that’s just to keep the thread alive. I want to hear what others would like to see as an improvement on their throw weights. Even just general thoughts and opinions. In...

    3D printed throw weights

This is a real R&D project. Many potential possible design routes. Becoming a process of elimination, trial and error, input and Participation by people here with ideas and experiences which unfortunately i find is pretty low on this thread right now. Please feel free to offer suggestions and...

    3D printed throw weights

Its very dependent of how things are printed polymer used and infill. But on average it’s about 1.50$ per unit for the plastic for a medium sized unit. But the last piece had 8 components which required a good deal of time for hand construction. So labor is significantly more expensive but I’m...
